The Opportunity CDO Group is looking for a driven Assistant Superintendent ready to develop into a lead field leader. This is a traveling role — you will be deployed to project sites across the Midwest and beyond, working directly alongside our Superintendents and Project Managers to keep jobs running on time, on budget, and to spec. This position is built for someone early in their field leadership career who is hungry, coachable, and not afraid to live out of a bag for stretches at a time. In return, CDO Group provides the mentorship, exposure, and compensation to accelerate your path to Superintendent. Travel & Work Site Expectations This is a field-first, traveling role. Candidates must be fully prepared for the following: Frequent deployment to project sites that may be located hours from your home — extended stays are the norm, not the exception Projects may require weeks or months on-site with periodic rotations home depending on project phase and schedule Site locations will vary by project and cannot be guaranteed in advance — flexibility is essential CDO Group takes care of its traveling team members: Per diem provided for all travel projects Lodging covered for overnight and extended project assignments Mileage reimbursement or vehicle allowance provided Transparent communication on upcoming project assignments and geography so you can plan ahead This role is best suited for someone at a stage in their life and career where they can embrace the road. Key Responsibilities Support the Superintendent in managing all day-to-day field operations across the full project lifecycle Monitor subcontractor work in the field for quality, schedule compliance, and conformance to contract documents Conduct and document daily site walks, manpower counts, weather logs, and progress reports Assist in coordinating subcontractor sequencing and trade stacking to maintain workflow and avoid conflicts Enforce site safety protocols and ensure all workers on site comply with OSHA standards and CDO Group policies Manage site access, material staging, and housekeeping to maintain a safe and organized job site Support RFI tracking, submittal coordination, and punch list management alongside the project team Assist with two-week lookahead scheduling and flag potential delays to the Superintendent and PM Step in to manage specific scopes or areas of the project independently as directed by the Superintendent Build hands-on knowledge across all major trades through direct field exposure on diverse commercial projects What Success Looks Like You are the Superintendent's right hand — they can count on you to own your area without being micromanaged Subcontractors and field crews respect you and follow your direction Daily documentation is complete, accurate, and turned in without being asked You are proactively flagging issues before they become schedule problems Within 12-24 months, you are being considered for a lead Superintendent role on your own project
Qualifications Required:
3-5 years of field experience in commercial construction as a foreman, field supervisor, or assistant superintendent Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate subcontractors in a field environment Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules Strong communication skills — able to give direction clearly and professionally in the field OSHA 10-Hour Certification minimum (OSHA 30 preferred or must obtain within 90 days of hire) Valid driver's license required Must be willing and able to travel extensively and work on remote project sites for extended periods
Preferred:
Journeyman-level trade background in carpentry, concrete, steel, mechanical, or electrical Experience on commercial projects including office, retail, healthcare, industrial, or education Procore or equivalent project management platform experience Prior experience in a traveling or multi-site field role
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$70,000
