The Position:
Evening Star Joinery is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to join our team. This position will be located in Harbor Springs, MI. Our clients appreciate our level of craft, our attention to detail, and our commitment to the use of sustainable, high-efficiency and high-quality materials. As a Construction Project Manager, you will manage residential and light commercial projects. We are looking for someone with similar values and beliefs who can translate his/her/their expertise and skills to our growth initiatives. Extensive project management experience is a must, and experience in the construction industry preferred. You will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects at once and communicating directly with our in-house Operations, Design, and Accounting teams as well as clients and subcontractors on custom residential projects. This position works closely with the Build Consultant to support continuity between preconstruction strategy and project execution. The Project Manager is responsible for maintaining schedules, coordinating documentation, and supporting communication across the client, design, and field teams, while the Build Consultant provides estimating guidance, technical insight, and early-phase project leadership. Project Leadership & Coordination 30% Serve as primary coordination point between client, design team, Production Manager, Lead Carpenter, and subcontractors Facilitate project meetings with architects, clients, site leads, and subcontractors Maintain consistent communication across stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle Support relationship continuity aligned with ESJ's collaborative building approach Preconstruction Support 10% Support Production Manager in developing estimates, schedules, and contract documentation Confirm completeness of project documentation prior to construction start Assist with decision tracking during preconstruction Support permitting coordination as needed Scheduling & Workflow Management 25% Develop and maintain project schedules across preconstruction and construction phases Coordinate sequencing for client decisions, subcontractor work, inspections, and procurement Monitor schedule progress and communicate adjustments proactively Support alignment between field timelines and office coordination Budget Tracking & Change Management 15% Track project costs relative to estimates and evolving budgets Support documentation of cost changes Prepare RFIs, RFPs, and change orders proactively Maintain visibility of scope adjustments with team and client Field Coordination Support 10% Support Lead Carpenter/Site Supervisor with subcontractor coordination Support procurement tracking and scheduling alignment Coordinate required inspections Maintain visibility across project milestones Quality, Safety, and Performance Standards 5% Support adherence to ESJ quality expectations and building performance standards Coordinate with site leadership to maintain safety compliance Ensure documentation aligns with project specifications Documentation & Project Closeout 5% Maintain project records throughout construction Coordinate preparation of closeout documentation Assemble client manual including as-built drawings, material schedules, and maintenance guidance
Skills, Knowledge and Requirements:
3-5+ years in Project Management Extensive construction experience is preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to critically approach multi-faceted issues while weighing the interest of many stakeholders Leading through mission and values Proficient computer skills (Microsoft programs and project management software) High level of professionalism Ability to set, coordinate and accomplish multiple competing priorities
Work Environment:
Office-based role with regular collaboration across design and production teams Regular interaction with clients, vendors, and job sites Fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to deadlines
Compensation:
$70,000-$85,000, starting salary commensurate with experience Annual merit-based raise and/or profitability bonus review
