Construction Assistant

Description:

The Construction Assistant assists the Construction Supervisor with all aspects of managing volunteer groups, obtaining contractors, ordering materials, tracking and maintaining tool inventory, required permits and inspections, working withhomeowners, and job site prep. The Construction Assistant is equally responsible for creating a team atmosphere. All work crews and individuals on site take their direction from the construction leads, who are responsible for knowing what work must be done and applying volunteer resources to accomplish that work.

Expected Time Commitment1. Full-time, seasonal position, approximately 35-40 hours per week (5 workdays per week). No weekends.2. You are one of the most visible ambassadors for HFH, and as a result, they will be asked Habitat-related questions from volunteers and the general public. We can educate you in this area.2.

Strong People Skills:

You must be patient, should maintain an air of confident enthusiasm about the work being done, and should strive to make the work experience enjoyable and rewarding for each and every volunteer. You shall not become angry or upset on site, shall not get into arguments, and shall never use profanity on site.3.

Strong Multi-Tasking Skills:

The role of the Construction Assistant is to help oversee the work at hand, while working alongside volunteers. At the same time, you may be directed to a different task or a different job-site if your supervisor deems necessary. In the absence of volunteers, independent work can be done.4.

Construction Experience:

Knowledge of residential construction is a must. All work should be done to current building code.

Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC are not part of the work we do, or skills needed for this position. Responsibilities1. Help to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and with adherence to high standards of quality construction.2. Work with the Construction Committee and Construction Supervisor on floor plans, materials list, and scope of work if needed.3. Assist in organizing materials and tools for each workday, in advance.4. Teach and demonstrate the techniques of house construction or repairs to volunteers.5. Ensure Affiliate Safety Program is being adhered to at all times. Teach tool use and safety. Maintain safe working conditions.6. Responsible for all tools assigned on a daily basis. Make sure they are in good condition for use. Ensure they are returned to Habitat property and put in their designated area.7. Submit reports of work performed if requested.
