Community Construction employs peoples with barriers to employment remodeling homes for low-income families teaching them trade skills in the process. Crew members will receive employment and financial coaching (as part of their paid work week), to assist them in reaching the goal of finding and transitioning into permanent employment.
Position Summary:
The Interim Community Construction Program Manager is responsible for leading crew members in implementing rehab project homes in Duluth. Training crew members and utilizing transitional employment are keys to the success of the program and the attainment of grant goals. This person will work with staff at Duluth HRA, residential contractors, industry professionals, vendors, community partners, representatives from state and county offices, contractors, and other CAD staff to maintain a robust curriculum while helping crew members achieve gainful employment in their chosen field. We value flexibility and work-life balance, and this position may offer a Monday-Friday or Monday-Thursday schedule. You will teach technical carpentry and construction skills to crew members to ensure they are qualified for gainful employment through restoring dilapidated homes to an environment that invites prosperity for occupants through exemplifying quality, hard work and professionalism. Major Responsibilities Supervise a crew of four to ten program employees (mostly temporary, transitional employees) Complete project tracking, work summaries, time sheets, and other admin tasks as requested by Director of Workforce Programs Oversee day-to-day operations and individual site rehabs Maintain an updated work schedule to keep crew members aware of weekly plans Ensure that projects are completed in a timely fashion, with safety and quality as the foremost priorities despite never knowing how many employees will show up any given day Instruct transitional employees in construction/remodeling techniques Teach hard skills in construction/carpentry and work ethic to transitional employees Delegate work assignments Provide coaching, discipline, and support for crew members as they grow in their abilities Coordinate logistics, schedule contractors/vendors, and perform crew training Record crew attendance and job performance, provide regular evaluations, hold 1:1 coaching sessions with crew members Order materials, supplies, and acquire tools and equipment for crew members Document program expenditures and procurements Keep Duluth HRA up to date on projects, contact with questions, and other correspondence as needed Report project status and project challenges to the Director, grantor, and Board Estimate, schedule and evaluate work projects Transport crews to work sites using a work vehicle Resolve conflicts/questions/concerns with crew members with program director and manager of HR Hiring new transitional employees regularly Networking with the rest of the industry to find possible future employers to the crew and partners for the program Required qualifications 3-5 Years' experience building/remodeling projects Familiarity with residential construction tools, remodeling techniques, and ability to properly instruct a small group in these techniques using proper terminology and safety measures Reads blueprints, tape measure, scope of work, and specs Aptitude in math and problem-solving orientation, i.e. Rise and run, sq ft. Calculate building materials needed while minimizing waste A passion for teaching people with barriers to employment A high school diploma or GED Demonstrated aptitude and credentials for residential building/remodeling work A driver's license, current insurance, and clean driving record Ability to lift 30 pounds independently and 50+ pounds with a partner Ability to safely perform physically demanding work for long periods of time Demonstrated leadership skills Believes in philosophy and mission of Community Action Duluth Strong safety orientation, with a preference for CPR and OSHA licenses Experience in training others in the basics of home construction and remodeling and receiving feedback Experience establishing and coordinating work schedules Has intermediate computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office suite Ability to self-start and work not only as team leader but as a team member Degree, coursework or related experience in construction, building science or environmental sustainability Must be able to relate to and communicate effectively with multi-ethnic and varied socio-economic groups/individuals and co-workers with excellent oral, written, and organizational skills Ability to proactively anticipate challenges, future needs and calendar management. Preferred qualifications Skilled trade certification or equivalent experience Previous supervisory experience Demonstrated experience supervising teams with employment barriers Ability to back a large vehicle with a trailer Network of subcontractors for specialty trades (especially plumbing and electrical)

$25.00 - $27.00 per hour
