Role Summary The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing mechanical field installation and subcontractor coordination for assigned data center systems and work areas. Working closely with the General Superintendent, mechanical project team, QAQC, equipment vendors, controls contractors, and commissioning personnel, the Mechanical Superintendent manages installation sequencing, quality, testing, and mechanical turnover. The position plays a key role in ensuring cooling and associated mechanical systems are installed correctly, maintained in suitable condition, and ready for start-up and commissioning. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Installation & Field Execution Coordinate installation of HVAC equipment, project cooling systems, piping, pumps, air-handling equipment, and associated mechanical packages Plan manpower, equipment, materials, and daily installation activities Monitor subcontractor performance and progress against the mechanical work plan Confirm equipment delivery, installation access, and material availability Identify constraints and coordinate corrective actions Technical & Trade Coordination Review mechanical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and approved submittals Identify discrepancies and coordinate technical clarification with the project team Coordinate spatial and system interfaces with electrical, controls, structural, and architectural teams Work with equipment vendors to confirm installation and start-up requirements Ensure field crews use current approved documents Quality & Safety Coordinate mechanical inspections, pressure testing, flushing, and cleanliness controls Track installation deficiencies and confirm corrective actions are completed Enforce safe lifting, access, work permits, and equipment installation practices Coordinate hazardous-energy controls with the relevant site authorities Maintain installation standards required for dependable system performance Commissioning & Turnover Support equipment start-up, testing and balancing, and controls integration Coordinate field support for functional testing and commissioning Monitor mechanical completion and resolve outstanding deficiencies Maintain testing records, as-built inputs, and punch-list documentation Support mechanical system handover and final turnover records Qualifications & Experience 8+ years of mechanical construction experience , including 3+ years in field supervision Direct data center construction experience with cooling systems and associated piping or HVAC installations Strong ability to read mechanical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and equipment documentation Experience with pressure testing, flushing, equipment start-up, and commissioning support Strong knowledge of mechanical installation sequencing, quality requirements, and trade coordination Ability to manage subcontractors, workforce planning, and material requirements OSHA 30-hour construction training Relevant mechanical trade qualifications are preferred Familiarity with Procore or similar construction-management platforms is an asset Experience with liquid-cooling systems is an asset where included in the project scope What We're Looking For DEC is looking for a mechanical field leader who maintains installation quality and system cleanliness while delivering dependable testing and commissioning readiness.
