This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys hands-on work, collaborates effectively within a team environment, and is committed to serving homeowners in the community requiring critical home repairs and accessibility modifications. The position is designed to provide foundational field experience and offers a defined development path toward a Field Supervisor role for individuals who demonstrate leadership potential, initiative, and growth in technical construction skills.
Reports to:
Construction Supervisor Location:
New Hanover County and the surrounding areas.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday and 1-2 Saturdays per month; time off during the week can be arranged to balance Saturdays.
Compensation:
$16.00-$20.00
Hourly, Full Time Role Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the completion of residential repair and accessibility projects, including carpentry, minor structural repairs, painting, and safety modifications. Provide a positive and inclusive experience for volunteers of all ages and skill levels by offering direction, encouragement, and hands-on support Support day-to-day project coordination, including material staging, tool organization, and job site preparation and clean-up. Help manage tool and debris trailers, ensuring organization, safety, and readiness for each project. Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding project progress, material needs, and any challenges encountered on-site. Demonstrate problem-solving skills by helping address unforeseen project needs (e.g., sourcing materials, adjusting timelines). Interact respectfully and compassionately with homeowners, ensuring their needs are understood and addressed throughout the project. Represent the organization's mission and values by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to serving the community Assist with basic administrative tasks such as tracking materials, volunteer participation, and project updates. Uphold safety standards and contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient job site. Required Attributes At least 1 year of basic construction or repair experience. Ability and willingness to teach and support volunteers at various skill levels. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Positive attitude, patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor. Organized and detail-oriented with basic technology and computer skills. Genuine commitment to serving others and strengthening the community. Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the local counties we serve.
