Job Description

William P. Davis Excavation LLC is looking for an experienced, hands-on Working Foreman / Field Superintendent to join our team. This is not a strictly supervisory position . We are looking for someone with significant real-world sitework and civil construction experience who can lead a crew while also being directly involved in getting the work done. The right person should be equally comfortable planning the day's work, reading plans, coordinating with project management, laying out work, directing a crew, operating equipment, installing utilities, or getting in the trench and working alongside the crew when needed. We want someone who leads from experience . Our projects vary considerably in size, scope, and complexity. We perform commercial and public-sector work and may work as either the General Contractor or a Subcontractor. Because we self-perform a wide range of work, our field leaders need to be versatile and capable of adapting to what each project requires. Depending on the project, you may be responsible for sitework, underground utilities, drainage, excavation, grading, concrete, demolition, structures, and other aspects of civil construction. What We're Looking For Significant hands-on experience in sitework and civil construction Previous experience as a foreman, superintendent, lead person, or similar field leadership role Strong knowledge of excavation, underground utilities, drainage, grading, and general site construction Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, grades, elevations, and layout Ability to plan work and keep a crew productive Experience coordinating equipment, materials, subcontractors, and daily field activities Ability to operate construction equipment when needed Willingness to work alongside the crew and perform hands-on construction work Ability to identify problems in the field and develop practical solutions Strong understanding of jobsite safety and quality Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, inspectors, owners, subcontractors, and crew members Ability to think ahead and understand what the project will need next We are not looking for someone whose experience is primarily supervisory or administrative . We need someone who has spent substantial time actually building civil projects and understands the work from firsthand experience. At W.P. Davis, the person leading the field needs to be willing to do whatever is necessary to move the project forward. Sometimes that means coordinating crews and planning several days ahead. Other times it means running an excavator, checking grade, helping install pipe, setting a structure, or working directly alongside the crew. The title is less important to us than the individual's experience, capability, and attitude. You may currently consider yourself a Foreman, Superintendent, Lead Operator, or experienced Sitework Foreman. What matters is that you can lead the work because you know how to perform the work. W.P. Davis Excavation has been in business for 18 years and performs a diverse range of commercial and public-sector construction projects. Our variety of work provides an opportunity for experienced field personnel to take on meaningful responsibility without being removed from the actual construction. If you're an experienced civil construction professional who wants to lead from the field rather than simply supervise it , we'd like to hear from you. Learn more at WPDavisExcavation.com .
