Job Description

Overview The Working Superintendent is a hands-on field leader responsible for directing daily jobsite operations while actively performing skilled carpentry and general construction work. This position serves as the primary on-site representative of the company, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Working Superintendent leads by example, supervises field personnel and subcontractors, coordinates with project teams and clients, and maintains a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and craftsmanship. This position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends and the ability to work in occupied healthcare facilities while following ICRA protocols. Duties Lead and actively participate in daily construction activities, providing hands-on carpentry support while supervising field operations. Perform rough and finish carpentry, including framing, drywall, trim, doors, windows, cabinetry, millwork, blocking, punch list items, and general repairs. Supervise and mentor field employees, foremen, and subcontractors, promoting accountability, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship. Plan and coordinate daily work activities, manpower, equipment, and material deliveries to maintain project schedules and productivity. Develop and execute short-interval and look-ahead schedules in collaboration with the Project Manager, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays. Serve as the primary on-site liaison with clients, architects, inspectors, utility companies, local authorities, and other project stakeholders. Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure work is performed accurately and in accordance with project requirements. Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations by conducting daily safety inspections, participating in toolbox talks, and maintaining a safe and organized jobsite. Perform quality control inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and company standards, correcting deficiencies as needed. Maintain accurate daily reports, labor hours, production tracking, inspections, deliveries, and other project documentation. Coordinate subcontractor activities, monitor performance, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule. Manage jobsite logistics, including material staging, equipment utilization, temporary protection, and housekeeping. Perform construction work within occupied healthcare and medical facilities while maintaining ICRA barriers, dust containment measures, and infection prevention protocols. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, minimize rework, reduce material waste, and support cost-effective project execution. Respond to changing project priorities and work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required to meet client and project demands.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field is a plus. 5+ years of hands-on construction experience with at least 1 years in a supervisory or lead role. Strong trade background with the ability and willingness to perform physical construction work daily. In-depth knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, building codes, safety regulations, and jobsite coordination. ICRA training or certification required, with experience working in occupied healthcare or medical environments preferred. Proven ability to lead crews through direct participation, mentorship, and clear expectations. Strong understanding of schedules, manpower planning, quality standards, and material/equipment logistics. Proficiency with construction management tools and software such as Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Microsoft Project, Sage, or similar. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with crews, subcontractors, inspectors, utility providers, and clients. Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety; OSHA 30 Certification required. Ability to read, interpret, and build from blueprints, plans, and specifications. Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain daily logs, schedules, and reports. Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and comfortable making field decisions independently. Availability to work nights, weekends, and extended hours as project schedules require. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from jobsites as required.
