Wetlands Inc. is a landscape and site construction contractor specializing in public works, environmental construction, landscape restoration, streetscape improvements, parks, DOT work, resiliency projects, and civil/site improvements throughout New Jersey and New York. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the company's project management function and oversee multiple construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This position requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, financial control, and the ability to coordinate project managers, field operations, subcontractors, vendors, clients, engineers, owners, and internal leadership. Position Overview The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing large-scale and complex construction projects while also supervising and supporting the company's project managers and project management staff. This role will report directly to the Executive Leadership and will be responsible for providing regular updates on project performance, financial status, staffing needs, risks, claims, change orders, and overall project execution. The ideal candidate has strong experience in public construction, landscape construction, civil/site work, parks, DOT, environmental restoration, or infrastructure-related projects. Key Responsibilities Manage multiple construction projects from award through final closeout. Lead, supervise, and support project managers, assistant project managers, coordinators, and project administrative staff. Provide direction, accountability, training, and oversight to the project management team. Report directly to the Board / Executive Leadership regarding project status, financial performance, major risks, claims, staffing, and operational needs. Review contracts, drawings, specifications, estimates, schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project correspondence. Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, unions, and field crews. Work closely with superintendents and field teams to plan manpower, equipment, materials, and daily production. Prepare, maintain, and update project schedules. Track project budgets, committed costs, labor, equipment, subcontractors, materials, change orders, and projected profitability. Identify project risks early and develop solutions to protect schedule, quality, cash flow, and profitability. Prepare, review, and negotiate change orders, extra work tickets, time-and-material work, and contract modifications. Oversee submittals, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, and closeout documentation. Review and approve subcontractor and vendor invoices. Prepare and oversee monthly requisitions, AIA billing, payment applications, and supporting documentation. Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, prevailing wage, union requirements, public agency requirements, and company procedures. Attend project meetings and represent Wetlands Inc. professionally with owners, agencies, engineers, construction managers, and public clients. Support procurement of materials, subcontractors, equipment, trucking, and specialty services. Manage punch list completion, final inspections, as-builts, warranties, and project closeout. Establish project management procedures, improve internal systems, and help standardize how projects are tracked, documented, billed, and closed out. Communicate regularly with company leadership regarding project status, risks, budget, schedule, staffing needs, and overall project performance. Required Qualifications Minimum 8 to 10 years of project management experience in construction. Prior experience managing or supervising project managers, assistant project managers, or project teams. Experience managing public works, civil/site, landscape construction, DOT, parks, streetscape, environmental restoration, or infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, change orders, submittals, RFIs, requisitions, and closeout requirements. Ability to manage multiple projects and oversee multiple project managers at the same time. Strong financial understanding of budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, billing, cash flow, and profitability. Experience coordinating field crews, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, trucking, equipment, and union labor. Strong communication, leadership, and accountability skills. Ability to problem-solve quickly and make sound decisions under pressure. Ability to report clearly and professionally to ownership, board members, and executive leadership. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project management software, scheduling tools, and construction documentation systems. Valid driver's license and ability to visit job sites throughout NJ/NY as needed. Preferred Qualifications Experience with
NJDOT, NYCDOT, NJ
Transit, Port Authority, county, municipal, park, school, or other public agency projects. Experience with union labor and prevailing wage projects. Familiarity with landscape construction, planting, irrigation, hardscape, drainage, grading, erosion control, site restoration, concrete, asphalt, utilities, and roadway-related work. Experience with AIA billing, certified payroll coordination, public bid documents, agency paperwork, and project closeout requirements. Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred, but not required with strong experience. OSHA 30 preferred. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can manage both projects and people. They are organized, accountable, field-oriented, and capable of holding project managers and field teams responsible for performance, documentation, schedules, budgets, and closeout. This person understands that successful project management requires both office control and jobsite awareness. They can manage paperwork, schedules, budgets, billing, and client communication while also understanding what crews need in the field to complete the work efficiently. The Senior Project Manager should be comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment and capable of pushing projects forward while maintaining professionalism, safety, quality, and profitability.
