Job Description

Project Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction Role Summary The Project Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field execution of heavy civil construction projects. This role leads all on-site operations, crews, and subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with contract documents and company standards. The Superintendent is the primary field leader and works closely with the Project Manager to deliver successful projects.

Owner Supervises:
Foremen, Field Crews, Subcontractors Key Responsibilities Project Execution & Field Leadership Plan, coordinate, and supervise all field construction activities Execute work according to plans, specifications, schedule, and budget Lead daily huddles, weekly planning meetings, and toolbox talks Maintain productivity targets and sequencing of work Coordinate labor, equipment, and material deliveries Identify and resolve constructability issues in the field Safety & Compliance Enforce company safety policies and site-specific safety plans Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and project-specific safety requirements Conduct site safety inspections and corrective actions Lead incident reporting and investigations when required Schedule & Production Control Develop and manage short-interval (2-3 week) look-ahead schedules Monitor daily production and manpower efficiency Communicate schedule impacts, delays, and recovery plans to PM Adjust crews and equipment to meet production goals Quality Control Ensure work meets contract specifications and quality standards Coordinate inspections and testing Correct deficiencies promptly and prevent rework Maintain accurate field documentation Coordination & Communication Act as primary field contact for subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors Coordinate with survey, utilities, traffic control, and inspectors Communicate daily progress, issues, and needs to Project Manager Assist with RFIs, change events, and constructability input Cost Awareness Maintain awareness of labor, equipment, and material costs Minimize waste, downtime, and inefficiencies Assist PM with tracking quantities, force account work, and change documentation Documentation & Reporting Complete daily reports, timecards, and equipment logs Track quantities installed and production rates Maintain as-built information and redline drawings Required Experience & Qualifications 5-10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction Proven experience as a Superintendent or Foreman on civil projects Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, concrete, structures, and/or roadway work Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and schedules Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills OSHA 30 (preferred or required) Valid driver's license Key Competencies Field leadership and crew management Safety-first mindset Strong planning and organizational skills Problem-solving under pressure Clear and direct communication Accountability and ownership of results Willingness to travel: Travel out of town to work on remote job sites as directed by management
