Job Title:
Civil Superintendent Job Description The Civil Superintendent oversees all aspects of civil and site construction activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and schedules. This role plans and supervises field operations, monitors productivity and quality, and collaborates closely with project stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes from start to close-out. Responsibilities Create clear and accurate daily job reports that document work performed, crew activities, equipment usage, and site conditions. Identify improved methods to accomplish tasks in the field, document best practices, and share them with project teams to drive continuous improvement. Provide input to cost and schedule forecasts by monitoring field progress and identifying potential risks or delays. Verify work progress against project plans and schedules, and take corrective actions when necessary to keep the project on track. Perform project close-out activities, including coordinating and ensuring timely completion of all punch list items. Plan and supervise all field activities, including determining methods of construction, sequencing of work, staffing levels, material quantities, equipment needs, and work schedules. Serve as a liaison with owner representatives and internal teams such as engineering, estimating, and planning to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and project schedule. Review daily and weekly crew production in relation to the original budget and take action to address issues affecting productivity or cost. Resolve field construction problems such as lack of productivity, work interference, and nonpayment for work performed by coordinating with appropriate stakeholders. Ensure quality workmanship is consistently performed on all aspects of the project and address any deficiencies promptly. Verify that all products, materials, and construction methods used meet or exceed project specifications and standards. Prepare for and attend project status meetings, providing accurate updates on progress, issues, and resource needs. Essential Skills Proven experience in civil construction with responsibility for supervising field operations. Strong experience in site construction, including coordination of earthwork, utilities, and related civil activities. Ability to plan and sequence construction activities, including determining staffing levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, and work schedules. Demonstrated capability to review and interpret drawings, specifications, and project schedules and ensure field work complies with these requirements. Experience monitoring crew production and comparing performance against budgets and schedules. Skill in identifying and resolving field construction issues related to productivity, work interference, and payment for work performed. Commitment to high-quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications. Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with owners, engineers, estimators, planners, and field crews. Ability to prepare clear, detailed daily job reports and present project status updates in meetings. Organizational skills to manage project close-out activities and punch list completion. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with ODOT projects is ideal but not required. Site development experience, including grading, roadways, and related civil infrastructure. Major utility construction experience, such as water, sewer, storm, or other underground utilities. Familiarity with forecasting project cost and schedule impacts based on field conditions. Experience documenting and sharing best practices to improve field performance and project outcomes. Work Environment The Civil Superintendent works primarily on active civil and site construction projects, spending most of the time in the field overseeing crews, equipment, and subcontractors. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain typical of construction sites. The position requires regular coordination with engineering, estimating, and planning teams, as well as participation in project status meetings. Work hours generally follow standard construction schedules and may include extended or variable hours depending on project needs and milestones. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Sharon Center, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
