Job Description
This position reports to:
US Director of Field Application Engineering __ The successful candidate will operate as the Technical Design Manager (TDM) for the Electrification business of ABB Electrification across the US. In this role, you be responsible for developing the relationships at the 10 largest Design firms in the US ensuring ABB products and solutions achieve a preferred/ acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications and designs. You will work closely with the sales team and local Field Application Engineers (FAE's) and must be proficient applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers and arc flash mitigation technologies. This support will extend to all markets such as but not limited to healthcare, data center, semiconductor, industrial, utility and commercial construction. This position is open for remote work, with a preference for those located near Houston, Dallas, or Kansas City to be geographically located near to key Design Firms. #LI-Remote Key responsibilities for this position: Manage technical relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for 10 strategically designated Design firm headquarters accounts. Build and maintain long-term partnerships with key decision-makers, technical leads, and engineers to position ABB competitively within each firm. Develop and execute comprehensive account growth strategies, identifying new opportunities to expand ABB's footprint within each assigned firm. Own and manage budget targets for ABB project designs, monitoring account performance against revenue goals across all assigned accounts. Ensure consistency in technical messaging and account approach across regional boundaries, supporting FAEs with escalations and complex customer challenges. Provide technical consultation and engineering guidance to customer teams during the design and specification phases of projects. Support proposal development, design reviews, and technical presentations at the headquarters level, responding to complex technical inquiries and coordinating solutions across ABB business units. Lead and mentor Field Application Engineers (FAEs) across multiple US locations, sharing best practices, technical knowledge, and account intelligence to elevate FAE effectiveness. Align with the sales EPC team to drive coordinated account development strategies and maximize ABB's presence within assigned firms. Collaborate cross-functionally across ABB internal teams and business units to deliver integrated, competitive solutions that drive customer value and revenue growth.Qualifications for the role:
B.S. degree in engineering; preferably electrical with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the electrical distribution industry. Strong interpersonal skills. Able to consider multiple viewpoints and resolve technical issues. Enjoy problem solving and new customer development. Self-starter- accountable for results and able to work without detailed direction.
Preferred Experience :
Previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities. Knowledge of industry codes and standards;ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL.
