Highway Equipment & Supply Co. is seeking an industry-experienced candidate to fill a heavy construction equipment dealership service manager position in Brownstown, PA. Job Summary The service manager is responsible for Service department operations in conjunction with Sales and Parts departments and other company locations. The service manager advises and recommends courses of action to meet or exceed customer and company expectations. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Evaluates manpower, space, and equipment needs Meets or exceeds budget goals Manages field service operations including trouble shooting, scheduling repairs, and special arrangements Ensures that proper records, reports, and procedures are established concerning all service work performed. Maintains proper division of time and overtime devoted to customer equipment vs. company-owned equipment, housekeeping, cleanup, testing, and inspection Arranges service personnel training in line with the department's needs. Keeps current in the management and technical areas needed for competent supervision Coordinates warranty work with customers and manufacturers through the warranty administrator Provides operator and service training for customers via Highway's service technicians Conducts annual performance evaluations of the Service department staff and recommends wage levels Efficiently and accurately performs administrative duties including billing, updating manuals, technical advisories, etc. Tracks service vehicles' condition and replacement cycles Arranges for and conducts service department meetings. Submits Service department agenda items to executive management for staff meetings and follows up on any needed actions Directly supervises all Service department staff Ensures that Service facilities, trucks, and equipment are in compliance with federal and state regulations Adheres to company policies
COMPETENCIES
Prior experience as a service manager in a fast-paced heavy construction equipment service center. Current technical knowledge of the equipment and product lines Highway represents is preferred Proven managerial and leadership skills with customers, employees, management, and manufacturers Ability to evaluate, prioritize, and resolve issues based on time and manpower constraints Ability to use a variety of computer systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook required, PowerPoint preferred) and vendor systems and websites Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Able to clearly communicate among all levels of the organization and with customers Be team oriented, flexible, and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service the meets or exceeds expectations Class C driver's license with a clean driving record As regular attendance by the service manager is critical to providing high-level, effective customer service, it is an essential function that the service manager report to work on time, notify the senior vice president if they are unable to report on time, and request all time off through the proper processes Supervisory Responsibilities This position supervises 10 or more employees. Required Education and Experience The following requirements are job-related and consistent with business necessity. High school diploma or GED Minimum three-to-five years' experience as a technician or service management experience in any industry or extensive technical experience Class C driver's license Preferred Education and Experience The following requirement(s) are job-related and consistent with business necessity, but does not disqualify applicants without them from consideration: Three-to-five year's heavy construction equipment technician or industrial service management experience Additional Eligibility Requirements Upon offer of employment, candidates: Must pass a pre-employment drug test and physical examination at Highway's expense to determine if the candidate is physically fit to perform the duties without injuring themselves or others. Will undergo a background check that will include information from various federal, state, or other agencies which maintain records concerning past activities related to driving, credit, civil actions, worker's compensation, and criminal records. All offers of employment are contingent upon the outcome of the background check Position Type/Expected Hours of Work As this in a full-time, overtime-exempt salaried position, the service manager is expected to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid lunch, and with a willingness to work as needed to get the job done.
