Job Description

Job Title:
Assistant Superintendent - Commercial Construction Job Description This role supports Superintendents throughout all phases of commercial and industrial construction projects, from pre-construction through closeout. You help coordinate schedules, subcontractors, documentation, and field activities to ensure projects run safely, efficiently, and in compliance with plans, specifications, and contractual requirements. Responsibilities Support Superintendents in all phases of the project lifecycle, from pre-construction planning through project closeout and warranty. Assist with developing, updating, and monitoring project schedules using Microsoft Project to ensure milestones and deadlines are met. Help manage subcontractor bids, including distributing bid packages, collecting proposals, and assisting with bid evaluations and scope reviews. Support subcontractor prequalification efforts by gathering required documentation and verifying compliance with project and company standards. Assist in defining and clarifying subcontractor scopes of work to ensure alignment with project specifications and expectations. Coordinate permits and ensure compliance with bond and insurance requirements, working with internal teams and external agencies as needed. Attend pre-construction meetings and contribute to jobsite setup activities, including logistics planning and site mobilization. Support review of construction documents, including drawings and specifications, to verify constructability and alignment with project requirements. Assist with shop drawing reviews and approvals to ensure submittals meet design intent and specification requirements. Track and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely submission, response, and distribution to all relevant parties. Monitor and maintain submittal logs, ensuring that materials and equipment are reviewed and approved in time to support the construction schedule. Assist with the preparation and management of change orders, including collecting supporting documentation and tracking approvals. Support the processing and tracking of pay applications, verifying quantities, work performed, and compliance with contract terms. Participate in regular site visits to monitor work in progress, verify quality and accuracy, and support adherence to safety practices and project plans. Maintain organized project documentation using construction management software, ensuring records are current, accurate, and accessible. Help manage the material delivery schedule, coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors to align deliveries with project needs and storage capacity. Monitor submittal approval timelines to prevent delays and support on-time procurement and installation of materials and equipment. Assist with project closeout activities, including gathering and organizing closeout documents, warranties, and as-built information. Support punch list creation and coordination, working with field teams and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of outstanding items. Assist with warranty documentation and follow-up, helping to track and resolve post-completion issues in a timely manner. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. 2-4 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction. Hands-on experience with construction management, including coordination of subcontractors and field activities. Experience in commercial construction environments, with an understanding of typical building systems and processes. Familiarity with project scheduling practices and tools, including the ability to read and interpret construction schedules. Familiarity with construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, for project communication and documentation. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy in documentation, tracking, and reporting. Collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively as part of a project team in both office and field settings. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with commercial construction management software such as CMiC or Viewpoint. Exposure to subcontractor management, including bid coordination and scope alignment. Experience assisting with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications. Interest in developing long-term skills in construction management and project supervision. Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and support field implementation. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Work Environment You work closely with Superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and other construction professionals in both office and field settings. The role involves a mix of time at the project site and in the project office, participating in pre-construction meetings, regular site visits, and ongoing coordination activities. You regularly use project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, construction management software such as CMiC or Viewpoint, and Microsoft Office applications to maintain project documentation and communication. Site visits require navigating active construction areas, monitoring work quality and progress, and supporting safe and efficient operations. Work hours generally align with standard construction schedules and may require flexibility to support project milestones and critical activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Wales, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $85.00/hr.
