Job Description

We provide sound engineering practices and creative solutions. Baumann Consulting is a highly reputable transatlantic consultancy for sustainability and energy efficiency in the real estate industry. Our mission is to deliver solutions for a carbon-neutral real estate industry. We are seeking a hands-on HVAC & Building Automation Project Manager with strong experience in commercial HVAC systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and field-based mechanical troubleshooting. This is not a purely administrative project management role. The position requires significant on-site involvement, working directly with HVAC systems, controls, and building operators to diagnose issues, implement improvements, and verify system performance. You will manage HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system projects focused on system performance, energy efficiency, commissioning support, and operational improvements across commercial buildings in the Washington, DC and Baltimore region. What You Will Do (but are not limited to): Manage HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system projects in commercial buildings Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system performance issues on-site Work directly with Building Automation Systems (BAS) to analyze and optimize system operation Review contractor quotes, proposals, and cost estimates Coordinate and oversee system testing, inspections, and commissioning activities Verify HVAC system performance and ensure compliance with project requirements Collect and analyze technical data to support engineering decisions Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for clients Coordinate closely with contractors, building engineers, and internal teams Lead on-site meetings and field coordination (major part of the role) Support energy efficiency upgrades, system improvements, and deferred maintenance projects Required Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, commissioning, or field service Strong Building Automation Systems (BAS) experience (multi-system exposure preferred) Experience troubleshooting HVAC systems in real building environments Background in plant operations, construction management, commissioning, or HVAC service Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and components Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems Ability to communicate effectively on construction and building sites Must be eligible to access government facilities Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area Ability to work on-site 3-4 days per week in DC and Baltimore area A Bachelor's degree may substitute for up to 2 years of experience. Preferred Qualifications Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Commissioning certification (BCxP, CCP, or equivalent) Journeyman HVAC or Electrician license DC 3rd Class Steam Engineer License Experience with energy efficiency projects and building performance improvements Familiarity with DC BEPS (Building Energy Performance Standards) OSHA-10 certification Technical report writing and proposal experience What This Role Is NOT Not a purely office-based project management position Not a purely administrative or consulting-only role Requires real hands-on HVAC and BAS system experience in the field
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
