Job Description The Texas Afterschool Centers on Education program, or Texas ACE©, aims to improve student attendance, behavior, and academics, while providing safe supplemental learning space for students who otherwise would not have such opportunities. These programs, funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant, provide high quality supplemental enrichment activities that align with the regular academic program; and programs are encouraged to deliver those activities in creative, hands-on, and exploratory ways.
Primary Responsibilities:
To successfully incorporate the Program vision, goals and objectives into the activities of the site. To successfully assist in designing, developing and managing programponents that lead to positive oues for the participating children and their families. To develop and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment in which children thrive. To assist in developing a team that includes the Principal, classroom teachers and other staff, Program Leaders, parent and corporate andmunity volunteers. To actively participate in staff development workshops that are designed to contribute to personal and professional growth. To report site activity to Project Director through monthly reports and weekly meetings.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Implement programs designed to increase student performance in core academic areas to prepare them for success on State achievement tests. Plan, develop and implement a structured schedule of activities and events that foster academic growth. Assist with instruction and supervision of students. Implement adultmunity education programs for parents of after-school students. Assist in achieving positive academic and social oues. Recruit staff (with the assistance of Principal and Program Administration). Cultivate relationship withmunity partners and monitor partner participation in program. Assist in budget preparation, budget monitoring, and purchase of needed supplies and equipment. Actively participate in all training and staff support activities and workshops required by the Program. Ensure that team members share the same vision and goals. Provide guidance so that Program Assistants meet their responsibilities. Assist in evaluating staff performance and make rmendations for hiring, discipline, and termination. Assist in providing resources and tools for all team members. Maintain all site supplies. Provide ongoing opportunities for children to experience success. Ensure that students are well behaved and implement discipline policy when necessary. Keep school staff informed about Program. Maintain the safety of students. Perform routine first aid and seek assistance for serious illness/injury. Assist in maintaining the maximum number of students enrolled. Assist in effectively managing site operations, including timelypletion and submittal of reports.
Additional Duties:
Develop positive relationships with the school staff. Recruit, retain and work effectively with volunteers. Make the program engaging for students and staff. Maintain professionalism with parents, staff andmunity. Perform related duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, perform grasping and handling motions and torso rotations on a continuous basis, lift and carry 20 pounds of materials; reach in all directions. Work in classroom and outdoor environment, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Willingness to work on weekends when staff development or other activities such as field trips is scheduled.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate's degree or equivalent Course work in child development or related area preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Basic concepts of child development and atypical child behavior characteristics Appropriate human relations and student needs Duties and responsibilities of a school district instructional paraprofessional Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and arithmetical concepts Routine filing Computer skills and record keeping procedures Possession of personal characteristics generally recognized as essential for good public employees including integrity, initiative, emotional maturity, dependability, courtesy, good judgement, and ability to work cooperatively with others
