Job Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports daily field operations by assisting with site supervision, subcontractor coordination, safety compliance, scheduling, and quality control. This role works closely with the Superintendent and project team to keep projects safe, on schedule, and aligned with D. Wilson Construction's standards while building the skills needed to advance into a Superintendent role.
Education & Experience Traditional Route:
Certificate, Associate or bachelor's degree + 2-3 years of construction experience (including time as Project Engineer)Non-Traditional Route:
5+ years of progressive field/trade experience with demonstrated leadership + OSHA 10 (required), OSHA 30 (preferred) Responsibilities Support the supervision of field activities, logistics, and production work to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality project execution Collaborate with the Superintendent and project team on daily operations, including RFIs, submittals, budgets, quantity take-offs, cost tracking, and material management. Assist with developing and maintaining the site logistics plan, coordinating subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, and equipment placement. Participate in and occasionally lead foreman and pre-installation meetings, ensuring alignment on safety, quality, and scheduling expectations. Collect and input accurate daily information into the project's daily reports, including progress updates, manpower, and potential impacts. Monitor the master schedule and help enforce lookahead schedules, track progress, and identify risks or delays. Support self-perform operations, including scheduling, tracking productivity, and managing budgets for labor and materials. Assist with subcontractor coordination, verifying performance, tracking daily tasks, and reporting on completion and compliance. Contribute to owner and coordination meetings by providing updates and technical input as needed. Mentor and support Project Engineers and other field team members, learning to lead effectively while remaining open to guidance Ensure project safety compliance for both subcontractors and self-perform crews through daily observation and communication. Support the management of environmental compliance and quality control standards, ensuring all work meets D. Wilson Construction's expectations and contract requirements. Physical Requirements This is a physically demanding role requiring mobility, strength, and endurance in a dynamic construction environment. Stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, and navigate uneven terrain frequently Lift or move up to 50 pounds periodically Use hands and tools; operate electronic devices Visual and auditory acuity are required for job site safety and communication Work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, etc.) Work long days (8-12 hours) and travel between job sites as necessaryNote:
