Job Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting and financial operations of the company while developing into a strategic financial leadership role. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains internal controls, and supports project managers and leadership with financial analysis. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background and is eager to continue to build expertise in commercial construction accounting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Management
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate account reconciliations (Bank and Credit Card Accounts).
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Monitor company cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting.
- Prepare financial reports for CFO, ownership, and management.
- Lead and oversee overhead costs, cash management, and bank and credit accounts and large purchase approvals.
- Ensure to be cross-capable in all accounting functions, including AR and AP Construction Accounting
- Perform routine job cost audits to verify budget compliance, monitor project profitability, and ensure adherence to company financial controls.
- Manage and enforce policy and procedures related to financial functions.
- Manage and report on monthly POC (Percentage of Completion) of large projects.
- Oversee cost exceeding revenue for T&M service work invoicing and WIP accounting.
- Ensure start and completion dates are kept and tracked.
- Manage final close out of projects and review budgets to actuals.
- Assist project managers with job cost reporting and financial analysis. Vendor and Sub-Contractors
- Manage and negotiate terms.
- Review reconciled vendor and subs statements.
- Assist in onboarding vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist AP in in bill processing management.
- Implement "pay with a purpose" plan for subs and labor crews. Customers
- Review contracts Terms and Conditions.
- Assist AR in overdue payments and collections. Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Manage sales and use tax filings.
- Assist with annual audits and tax preparation. Internal Controls
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper internal controls over financial transactions.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies. Leadership
- Train and mentor accounting personnel.
- Work with the owners and leadership team to guide any financial decisions.
- Support company growth through accurate financial reporting and analysis. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience (construction industry preferred).
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Understanding of job costing and construction accounting principles is preferred.
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar).
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
