Job Description
Construction Superintendent - Commercial (Ground-Up & MEP)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for commercial and healthcare projects, including hospitals, VA facilities, and medical centers. The Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day construction activities, managing subcontractors, ensuring MEP integration, maintaining safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget. This role requires hands-on leadership, strong communication with stakeholders, and a proven track record in ground-up construction in regulated healthcare environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee all on-site construction activities for ground-up commercial and healthcare projects, including hospitals, VA medical centers, and clinics.
Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, and craft labor to ensure work progresses according to schedule and project plans.
Manage MEP installations and sequencing, working closely with MEP foremen, engineers, and commissioning teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, and integrated correctly.
Enforce safety, quality control, and infection control protocols required for healthcare construction and occupied facility work.
Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders; communicate clarifications to field teams.
Maintain daily logs, progress reports, and site documentation; track manpower, equipment, materials, and schedule milestones.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, owners, and design teams to resolve field issues, coordinate inspections, and facilitate approvals.
Perform field inspections to verify work meets contract documents and quality standards; coordinate corrective actions when necessary.
Lead pre-construction and coordination meetings, interface with vendors and suppliers, and develop short-term lookahead schedules.
Mentor and develop on-site staff, promote teamwork, and maintain a professional work environment focused on client satisfaction.
QualificationsMinimum 5 completed projects as a superintendent on commercial construction projects.
Proven experience managing ground-up construction and complex MEP systems installation and coordination.
Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, and quality control.
Familiarity with healthcare construction regulations, infection control risk assessment (ICRA) procedures, and facility commissioning processes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills; able to communicate effectively with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and inspectors.
Proficiency with daily reporting, progress tracking, and common construction software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar).Valid OSHA 30-hour certification; additional safety or healthcare construction certifications preferred.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings; associates degree or equivalent in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
Reliable transportation, ability to work flexible hours, and willingness to travel between job sites as required.
