Job Description
Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Estimator / Project Manager to oversee excavation and civil construction projects for horizontal construction, from initial bid through final completion. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates and managing awarded projects to ensure they are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities Estimating Duties:
Review plans, specifications, and bid documents for excavation and site development projects Perform quantity takeoffs (earthwork, utilities, grading, etc.) Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing Identify project risks, site constraints, and logistical challenges during the bidding phase Prepare and submit complete, accurate, and competitive bids Produce a Preliminary schedule with timelines and daily production goals based on unit pricing Works directly with modeler and engineer. Requests CAD file, surface file, and control file from engineer. Requests 3D surface from modeler. Tracks Job costs, production rates, and budgets. Clearly communicates these with teams daily. Project Management Duties:
Oversee projects from award through completion Develop and manage project schedules and timelines Coordinate with field crews, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers Ensure projects meet safety standards, quality expectations, and company policies Communicate with clients, inspectors, and stakeholders Manage change orders, RFIs, and project documentation Problem-solve field issues and adjust plans as needed to maintain efficiency Procures material deliveries & subcontractor agreements Required Skills & Qualifications College Degree- Bachelors Degree in construction technologies preferred Proven experience in excavation, site development, or civil construction Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and grading Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost estimating Knowledge of production rates, equipment capabilities, and job costing Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Effective communication and leadership skills Proficiency in construction software (Plan Swift, Sharp Soft, Smart construction, Propeller, Construct Connect & Bid boards) Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with computer skills, software management programming, and basic computer skills. Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in both estimating and project management roles Experience with GPS machine control, grading technology, or digital takeoff software Strong background in utilities, earthwork, and site logistics Leadership experience managing crews or coordinating subcontractors What We're Looking For A self-starter who takes ownership from bid to build Someone who understands both the field and the office side of construction Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency A problem-solver who can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment Pay:
