Job Title:
Construction Project Manager (Field-Based) Job Description This field-based Construction Project Manager role leads the planning and on-site execution of a major expansion at an industrial composting facility in Waverly, VA. The position supports final design development and transitions into full construction oversight for expanded processing capacity, new infrastructure, and associated environmental control systems. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and the project's General Contractor to align the work with defined scope, operational requirements, budget, and schedule expectations. This is a hands-on leadership position in an active industrial environment, requiring a strong presence in the field to drive safety, quality, and performance throughout construction. Responsibilities Lead the planning and on-site execution of a major facility expansion, including expanded processing capacity, new infrastructure, and environmental control systems. Support final design development by coordinating with engineers and internal stakeholders to ensure constructability and alignment with operational needs. Transition the project from design into full construction oversight, providing day-to-day field leadership and direction. Work closely with the General Contractor to ensure alignment with project scope, operational requirements, budget, and schedule expectations. Coordinate engineers, contractors, and operations staff to maintain clear communication and resolve issues quickly. Manage construction schedules and monitor progress to keep the project on track and proactively address delays. Oversee project budgets, track costs, and support estimation activities to maintain financial control. Review, process, and track change orders and requests for information (RFIs) to ensure timely resolution and accurate documentation. Ensure construction work follows proper sequencing, including grading, utilities, stormwater systems, and structural concrete activities. Review and interpret civil, structural, and mechanical drawings to guide field execution and verify compliance with design requirements. Monitor quality of construction and enforce standards to ensure the project meets design and performance expectations. Coordinate construction activities within an active industrial or environmental facility to minimize disruption to ongoing operations. Identify risks related to schedule, budget, and field conditions and implement mitigation strategies. Support environmental and operational compliance by aligning construction methods with facility requirements and control systems. Maintain consistent on-site leadership presence throughout construction to address issues in real time and support safe, efficient execution. Essential Skills 7-10+ years of experience in industrial construction, heavy civil, or process facility project management. Experience working on large-scale site development or industrial expansion projects. Prior experience working alongside or overseeing a General Contractor in an owner's representative or field leadership role. Strong understanding of construction sequencing, including grading, utilities, stormwater systems, and structural concrete. Experience managing projects within active industrial or environmental facilities (preferred). Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and mechanical drawings. Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and keep work on track. Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and support estimation activities. Proficiency in core project management and construction management practices, including project coordination. Experience with environmental construction elements and related control systems. Ability to manage change orders and RFIs effectively and maintain accurate documentation. Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate between engineers, contractors, and operations staff. Ability to perform hands-on, site-based leadership in an active industrial environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in process facility projects or similar complex industrial environments. Experience acting as an owner's representative in the field. Comfort working within environmental facilities and understanding of environmental control considerations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in the field. Ability to build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contractors. Work Environment This is a hands-on, site-based position located at an active industrial composting facility in Waverly, VA. You will spend the majority of your time on site, providing consistent on-site leadership throughout the construction phase. The work environment involves coordination with engineers, contractors, and operations staff in a live industrial setting where facility operations continue during construction. You can expect exposure to typical outdoor and industrial site conditions, including heavy equipment, grading activities, utilities installation, stormwater systems, and structural concrete work. The role requires a strong field presence, regular interaction with the General Contractor, and active oversight of day-to-day construction activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Waverly, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $125000.00/hr.
