SALARY:
BUILDING INSPECTOR I
$31.70 - $38.62 / Hour
BUILDING INSPECTOR II
$34.87 - $42.38 / Hour

THE POSITION
Under close supervision, performs work of routine difficulty as an entry-level position to secure compliance with zoning regulations and including, but not limited to, the Municipal Building Codes, California Building Codes, California Mechanical Codes, California Plumbing Codes, and the California Electrical Codes. Work involves field inspection, plan examination, and related office work necessary to secure compliance with zoning regulations and Municipal Building Codes. Incumbents are closely supervised on a daily basis by the Building Inspector III. Performs other work as required. The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. Building Inspector I & Building Inspector II Applications will be accepted only from those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the
COMPLETED
application, resume, & supplemental questionnaire that they meet the below requirements: Graduation from high school or GED; AND Successful completion of an acceptable course in building codes; AND An equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License
BUILDING INSPECTOR I
In addition to the above, must have an additional four (4) years of journey-level experience in building inspection, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical), architecture, design, plan permitting, or related field;
BUILDING INSPECTOR II
In addition to the above, must have an additional five (5) years of journey-level experience in building inspection, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical), architecture, design, plan permitting, or related field;
O RAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW
(Weighted 100%): August 26 th , 2026 (Tentative) An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
NOTE:
Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
