Job Title:
ICC Soils Inspector (Caltrans Experience Required) Position Overvie wWe are seeking a qualified ICC-certified Soils Inspector with Caltrans project experience to support infrastructure and transportation projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This role involves inspection, testing coordination, and documentation of earthwork and soil-related construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, Caltrans standards, and applicable codes Key Responsibilities Perform field inspections of soil, grading, and earthwork operations on Caltrans and local agency projects Verify compliance with project plans, specifications, Caltrans Standard Specifications, and geotechnical recommendations Monitor excavation, fill placement, compaction, subgrade preparation, and trench backfill operations Observe and document moisture conditioning and compaction testing activities Coordinate with field technicians and laboratories to ensure proper sampling and testing (Proctor, density, etc.) Review and interpret geotechnical reports, plans, and specifications Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, logs, and photo documentation Communicate deficiencies and non-compliance issues to contractors and project managers Attend construction meetings as required Ensure compliance with safety protocols and Caltrans requirements Required Qualifications Current ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification (Soils) Demonstrated experience on Caltrans projects (highly preferred / required depending on employer Strong knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans & Specifications Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and CBC standards related to soils inspection Ability to read and interpret construction documents and grading plans Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
