The full salary for the Maintenance Inspector I position is $26.58 to $39.88 hourly, dependent upon qualifications and experience, and the anticipated starting pay is $33.22/hr.
Typical weekly schedule:
Four 10 hour days.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB
This position performs a variety of moderately difficult to complex duties associated with quality assurance and inspections within the Road and Bridge Division. The position conducts on-site inspections, construction management, and data collection to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal standards and specifications.
DUTIES:
Works under the direct guidance of the Maintenance Inspector Supervisor to inspect Public Works projects, such as streets, bridges, drainage, and other maintenance projects and installations to ensure compliance with County construction standards. Reviews and inspects materials, grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices and takes samples for various materials tests and calls for testing as required. Reviews and evaluates test data to ensure compliance with adopted standards. Assists with coordinating the scope of work for assigned projects, providing direction and clarity to contractors and outside consultants by participating in preliminary project design review. Participates in final acceptance and walk-throughs. Conducts inspections of road construction, including pre-paving road tests of sub-grade/ base course and paving operations. Accepts, rejects or requires modification to contracted and in-house crew work as necessary. Conducts inspection of Grading, Erosion and Sediment Control (GESC) Best Management Practices (BMPs) associated with construction projects. Assists in the development of the annual Road and Bridge maintenance programs such as concrete replacements, street surface seals, overlays, and crack fill. Assists in determining the extent of work necessary for each program. Assists in determining the appropriate bid items and quantities for each of these programs. Assists in developing the engineers estimate for each project. Helps in making minor design changes to improve or correct deficiencies. Collects asset condition and location data into a standardized database ensuring all project specific attributes are accurately captured.
REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate tools and equipment associated with road inspections. Ability to operate standard office equipment and a variety of computer systems and applications. Ability to ensure contracted and internal operational compliance with County standards, provisions, and requirements. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. High School Diploma or GED equivalent 2+ years of experience in public works construction Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check. Possession of a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work requires frequent exposure to weather conditions, road hazards, the hazards associated with new construction.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. Spends 60% of the time sitting and 40% of the time either standing or walking. Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 40 lbs. Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 40 lbs. Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties. Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions. Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment. Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.
