Job Description
SANYS:
Western New York Buffalo Regional Organizer (25 Hours per week) The Finger Lakes Regional Organizer reports directly to the Western Regional Coordinator. The person's primary role is to support regional self-advocacy activities and support the Regional Coordinator with office responsibilities and regional outreach activities such as presentation and support to self-advocacy groups. The organizer also assists with office functions such as answering correspondence, filing, and preparing and processing paperwork as needed.Responsibilities:
- Maintain 25 Hours per week flexible schedule.
- Support Regional SANYS board members, grass-roots presenters and self-advocates to promote self-advocacy groups within region.
- Assist SANYS board members, grass-roots presenters and self-advocates to facilitate self-advocacy meetings.
- Promote SANYS initiatives within region.
- Travel across counties within region.
- Have a basic understanding of regional projects. Have clear understanding of projects you are working on with support from direct supervisor.
- Be self-directed; take initiative under the guidance of SA Coordinator.
- Assist the Regional Coordinator with maintenance of the following duties: schedules, calendars, collecting and preparing timesheets for coordinator's signature, messages, event-prep, filing, copies, data entry, preparation of activity forms for coordinator reports, faxes, meetings if applicable, phones, newsletters, and articles, fundraising, grant writing-work, work and support events as requested and outreach, etc.
- Work to support self-advocacy leadership (our core group of individuals with developmental disabilities).
- Must be able to advise/assist self-advocates with arranging their transportation or provide transportation to self-advocacy events throughout the region, when appropriate and at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator.
- Other work-related tasks at the discretion of supervisor.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree preferred.
- 2 Years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of computers, document development and presentation material.
- Commit to 25 hours per week (flexible schedule) either in the office or working to support self-advocates in the field (various locations across the region).
- Be flexible if requested to work additional hours during conferences and quality assurance projects.
- Due to extensive travel, there are many days that you may start or end your day working at home. It is important that work from home is cleared with your supervisor.
- Clean NYS drivers license and proof of motor vehicle insurance.
- Use of own Vehicle for travel across counties within region with occasional statewide travel. (Mileage Reimbursement provided at the current IRS rate).
- Use of own vehicle to support travel of team members and volunteers as needed.
Expectations:
- Honor and support the leadership of self-advocates at all times.
- Promote the visibility and success of self-advocates within their region.
- Perform Additional tasks at the direction of your supervisor.
- Accept direction from immediate supervisor and Administrative Director.
- A high degree of professionalism will be maintained when representing SANYS during hours of employment.
- Work hours should be used for the sole purpose of SANYS and its mission.
- Share self-advocacy office space and supplies with volunteers, advocates, and field representatives.
- Be Respectful of all colleagues, Board Members, Advisors and others you interact when representing SANYS.
