Job Description

Utility Construction Inspector - Substation & Transmission Line Position Overview Abacus Consulting Group is seeking experienced Utility Construction Inspectors to support upcoming electrical utility projects in Colorado and surrounding states. This field-based role supports active substation and transmission line construction by providing construction oversight, monitoring compliance with project requirements, documenting field activities, and helping maintain established safety standards. Assignments may focus on substation construction, transmission line construction, or a combination of both depending on project needs and the inspector's experience. Key Responsibilities Inspect substation and transmission line construction activities in the field Verify work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable requirements Monitor contractor performance and construction progress Identify and report non-compliant work or field concerns to appropriate project stakeholders Complete daily reports, inspection documentation, and field logs accurately Communicate effectively with contractors, field crews, project teams, and client representatives Uphold and promote established safety requirements on active job sites Support additional field oversight activities as required by project scope Qualifications 5+ years of experience in substation, transmission line, electrical utility construction, or construction inspection Strong knowledge of utility construction practices and job-site safety requirements Ability to work independently in active field environments Experience with field reporting, documentation, and communication Willingness and ability to travel for project-based assignments Required Certifications OSHA 30 (Construction) Current
CPR / AED
/ First Aid certification Preferred Qualifications Experience working directly with electric utilities, contractors, and project owners Experience across both substation and transmission line construction Bilingual (English/Spanish) Schedule & Work Environment This is a field-based, project-driven position. Work schedules may exceed 40 hours per week depending on project scope, schedules, and client requirements. Travel may be required for assignments throughout Colorado and surrounding states.
Compensation & Benefits Compensation:
$50.00-$70.00 per hour , based on experience, qualifications, and project assignment. Benefits and compensation structure may vary depending on project assignment and eligibility.
