EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Five (5) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of ONE valid building inspector certification or the ability to obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire. Six (6) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of TWO (2) valid building inspector certifications. Seven (7) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of THREE (3) valid building inspector certifications. Eight (8) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of FOUR (4) valid building inspector certifications or the One and Two Dwelling Inspector Certification. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record are required. Possession and maintenance of the State of Florida-mandated licensing requirements.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of building construction. Knowledge of building codes. Skill in using standard equipment and testing devices. Skill in correcting correct defects in building constructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints. Ability to enforce building codes. Ability to focus on the positive in every situation. Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization. Ability to stay centered when challenged. Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
