Job Description
Senior Engineering Technician (Construction Services) We are seeking an experienced Senior CMT Engineering Technician to join our growing construction materials testing team in the Tampa area. They will perform quality control testing and inspection services for soil, concrete, asphalt, and other common construction materials on a variety of commercial, residential, transportation, utility, and infrastructure projects. The position requires a strong understanding of applicable testing procedures, project specifications, and documentation requirements, as well as the ability to recognize and communicate potential quality or compliance issues in the field. Senior Technicians are expected to serve as a dependable technical resource in the field. They facilitate project managers with field operations, mentor junior technicians, and help ensure that testing and inspection work is performed accurately, efficiently, safely, and in accordance with applicable requirements. The right candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, initiative, and the ability to recognize and communicate potential issues before they become larger project concerns. They must be comfortable working independently in active construction environments, coordinating daily activities with contractors and project personnel, completing accurate field reports and testing documentation, and communicating test results and observations clearly. Key Responsibilities Field-intensive position, requires standing and walking for extended periods, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, lifting and carrying equipment / materials weighing 40+ pounds. Conduct field sampling, testing, inspections, and quality control activities in accordance with applicable project specifications, ASTM standards, FDOT requirements, and other governing procedures. Independently perform assigned testing and inspection activities with limited supervision, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Prepare accurate, complete, and timely daily reports, test results, field observations, deficiencies, inspection documentation, and other required project records. Communicate test results, observations, and potential deficiencies to project managers, contractors, inspectors, and other project personnel. Recognize testing or construction conditions that may require additional investigation, clarification, or corrective action and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate project personnel. Maintain testing equipment and ensure equipment is properly calibrated, operational, and cared for. Coordinate with project managers regarding daily assignments, scheduling, project requirements, and unusual field conditions. Maintain professional working relationships with contractors, clients, inspectors, engineers, and fellow technicians. Assist with training, mentoring, and development of entry-level and less-experienced CMT technicians. Demonstrate proper testing procedures, documentation practices, equipment use, and jobsite safety expectations. Support laboratory and field operations as needed. Follow all company safety policies and procedures and maintain a strong awareness of jobsite hazards. Perform other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Nuclear Gauge certification.
ACI / CTQP / FDOT
certifications (
Including:
Concrete Field, Asphalt Paving, Asphalt Plant, Earthworks, Drilled Shaft, Auger Cast Pile, Pile Driving, MOT) 5+ years of experience in construction materials testing, special inspections, or a related field. Ability to accurately interpret
ASTM, ACI, FDOT
project specifications, testing requirements, and field conditions. Strong understanding of quality control testing procedures for soils, concrete, and asphalt and experience performing inspection activities independently. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with contractors, clients, inspectors, engineers, and project managers. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project documentation. Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple project demands. Ability to identify unusual field conditions and appropriately escalate technical or quality concerns. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable MVR in accordance with company insurance requirements. Must successfully pass required background screening and drug testing.
