ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs responsible technical work in operating Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment to identify and record the location, dimensions and other aspects of existing and new water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems infrastructure. Efficiently and effectively uses GPS equipment to collect asset data points of the water distribution systems and sanitary sewer systems infrastructure. Collects asset data as needed and required to accommodate immediate and future planned repair, maintenance, and new construction work. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive record of all utility structures identified; denotes the location, type, and size of the utility lines, structures, etc.; makes field sketches and renders them to the supervisor for mapping and other documentation purposes. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of codes, plans, specification standards, and regulatory requirements. Reviews and interprets water and sewer maps and plans to aid City crews and/or contractors in effecting required utility repairs or new construction work; verifies the accuracy and completeness of as-built drawings of utility systems. Performs Certificate of Occupancy (CO) inspections and reports, verifies utility assets are GPS located, and performs other utility repair, maintenance, and construction support work as directed. Operates a City vehicle to travel to various locations throughout the City to perform work. Ensures assigned GPS equipment is routinely maintained, cared for, and used properly. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Considerable knowledge of water and sewer systems and related repair and maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulatory requirements pertaining to water and sewer system construction.
• Ability to gain knowledge of the existing City water and sewer system; read and interpret engineering plans, construction drawings and 100-scale maps; prepare and maintain work related records and reports; and communicate and work effectively with fellow employees, contractors, and the general public.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Three years of experience in the repair, maintenance, construction, or inspection of water and sewer systems.
• Survey, GIS, and AutoCAD experience is a plus.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant's system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
• Possession of a valid Florida driver's license for operating City vehicles. Driving record will be reviewed as determined by the City of Winter Haven.
• Must obtain a Florida Water Distribution System Operator Level 3 License within twelve (12) months of hire.
