Roadway Construction Inspector Job Description We are seeking a skilled and observant Roadway Inspector to oversee and inspect civil engineering construction projects, ensuring they conform to project specifications. This role involves inspecting the reconstruction and complete interchange reconfiguration of major infrastructures, including flyover bridges, bridge replacements, and roadway expansions. The ideal candidate will work independently on civil construction projects and assist experienced inspectors on complex assignments. Responsibilities include detailed documentation, effective communication, problem resolution, and adherence to safety standards. Candidates must be physically capable of performing field inspections and willing to work in various weather conditions, including potential night shifts. Responsibilities Perform field construction inspection and documentation services on commercial, municipal, institutional, and heavy highway and bridge projects. Review job site safety daily and take immediate action to document and resolve issues. Understand and adhere to OSHA Safety Standards and corporate policies. Ensure compliance with all applicable industry standards and client requirements. Prepare detailed and timely reports to document construction progress, inspection, and testing results. Record and report daily forms per project requirements and review all work for completeness and accuracy. Maintain necessary records, measure field quantities, and conduct field tests to determine contractors' compliance with contract specifications. Submit accurate timesheets, mileage, and expense reports on time each week. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, staff, and supervisors. Resolve problems at the lowest level. Essential Skills 2+ years of civil inspection experience specifically in roadway, bridge, reinforced concrete, and site civil inspection projects.ACI / FCON
(GDOT Concrete Cert) Field Concrete Certificate. Proficiency in computer skills, including Procore, Heavy Jobs, E Builders, Bentley Synchro, Excel, Microsoft Suite, Word, and PDF Editor. Experience in reinforced concrete inspection. Ability to understand construction plans, specifications, and procedures. Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry. Fluency in reading, writing, and communicating. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in soils, asphalt, or aggregate, and soil mechanics is beneficial. Traffic control experience, primarily monitoring, is advantageous. Experience in bridge foundation, pile driving, drilled shafts, and spread footing is highly valued. Additional certifications such as NICET, ICCs, GDOT CEIT Program, Pit Testing, Asphalt, and Traffic Control. High school diploma or GED required. Work Environment The Roadway Inspector will report to the project site daily and connect with the foreman or project manager to understand assigned tasks. The role involves observing, inspecting, and documenting contractors' work to ensure standards and specifications are followed. The work environment is dynamic, involving fieldwork in various weather conditions and potential night shifts. Inspectors will be provided with a company vehicle (Nissan Frontier Truck) with a gas card for travel to job sites. The project is a part of the GDOT Design Build Project, focused on faster project delivery. This position is involved in a major infrastructure initiative aimed at alleviating congestion and improving safety in metro Atlanta. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Duluth, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
