The Plumbing Inspector will perform field inspections of new and existing plumbing installations and work closely with contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $35.5868 to $39.1454 per hour commensurate with credentials and experience. The Pay Grade for this position is N235. (Download PDF reader) Duties Conducts on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to verify compliance with applicable plumbing codes, ordinances, and approved plans. Inspects plumbing systems at various stages of construction, including underground, rough-in, testing, and final inspections. Conducts follow-up inspections and recommends stop orders/citations for non-compliance of project plans and specifications. Inspects, tests and verifies proper installation of water supply, sanitary drainage, waste systems, venting, stormwater, backflow prevention, and gas piping systems (as applicable). Interprets and enforces plumbing codes, standards, and regulations consistently and professionally. Works with the Code Enforcement Team to respond to complaints and investigate reported plumbing-related code violations. Enforces codes and quality control for a variety of materials and construction practices. Provides technical guidance and clarification to contractors, engineers, architects, property owners, and the public regarding plumbing code requirements and inspection processes. Provides high-level customer service while adhering to established codes. Informs the TED Field Projects Supervisor, and Chief Building Official of inspection activities and issues in the field. Documents inspection and plan review results using the City's electronic permitting and inspection software. Maintains accurate inspection records, reports, photographs, and documentation in accordance with departmental policies. Coordinates with other inspectors and municipal departments to ensure comprehensive code compliance. Responds to emergency callouts after regular working hours, if needed. Cross trains with other building inspectors. Attends training and maintains required certifications and continuing education. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Note:
This role involves regular visits to construction sites with potential exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, dirt, fumes, heights and/or confined spaces.Qualifications Required:
State of Illinois Plumbing license. State of Illinois Plumbing Inspector certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months) Seven years of progressive plumbing experience, including residential and commercial systems. High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized/vocational training in the building trades. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted. Valid State of Illinois Driver's License.Preferred:
ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification. ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification.
