Job DescriptionHeartland REMC is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Staking Technician to support the design, layout, and coordination of electric and fiber distribution facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient project execution while maintaining high-quality service to our members and compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, route, and stake electric distribution and service facilities, including transformers, primary and secondary lines, and services in accordance with member needs and RUS specificationsPrepare and maintain accurate electronic staking sheets and engineering recordsObtain GPS coordinates for newly designed facilitiesSecure easements and manage rights-of-way for construction projectsCoordinate permitting requirements for road right-of-way accessAssist in planning system expansion, improvements, and long-term infrastructure goalsOversee staking of the Construction Work Plan (CWP) in a timely and efficient mannerCollaborate with consulting engineers and internal departments on projects and system improvementsSupport engineering administrative tasks, including calculations, billing, and recordkeepingAssist with contracts and documentation for commercial, industrial (C&I), and subdivision projectsAddress member inquiries, explain project costs, and provide timely responses to service requestsMaintain strong customer service standards, including returning calls within one business dayRemain current on National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirementsAssist with territory boundary coordination and regulatory mattersParticipate in emergency response situations as neededAttend and participate in cooperative meetingsPerform additional duties as assignedQualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a related field preferredMinimum of seven (7) years of experience in electric distribution line constructionWorking knowledge of easements, rights-of-way, and utility permitting requirementsFamiliarity with RUS standards preferredStrong understanding of electric cooperative systems and service territoriesProficiency with computers and standard office equipmentStrong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skillsExcellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with members, coworkers, and the publicDetail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentationWillingness and ability to learn new skills and technologiesValid Indiana driver's license requiredWork Environment & ExpectationsCombination of fieldwork and office-based responsibilitiesAvailability to respond to emergency situations as neededCommitment to safety, quality, and member satisfaction Additional InformationWhat is in it for you: Family oriented workplace Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance Life Insurance Short-term Disability Insurance Long-term Disability Insurance Sick Leave and PTO Fully funded Pension Traditional 401K and Roth 401K program with a company match 11 paid holidaysNo phone calls please.
