Job Description

The City of Pittsburg is accepting applications for a full time Building Inspector with the Housing and Community Development Department. This position inspects new and existing structures, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing installations to insure compliance with local and state building codes and zoning ordinances, safety laws and regulations, and construction plans and specifications. The Inspector is also responsible for enforcement of dilapidated housing codes, health regulations and other City codes. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Qualifications
POSITION COMPETENCIES
  • Thorough knowledge of national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations regarding construction, alteration, and repair of buildings and structures, materials, workmanship, and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of building system installations and construction, materials, equipment and workmanship.
  • Ability to: o Read and interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, specifications, and diagrams and determine conformance with established standards.
o Read, understand, explain, and apply regulations. o Make technical inspections and render valid decisions. o Enforce regulations tactfully, firmly, and impartially. o Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, and the public. o Make arithmetic and statistical computations with speed and accuracy. o Use appropriate computer software in analysis, calculations, and record keeping. o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. o Testify effectively in court and before related boards. o Research data and originate legal documents and other instruments of law. o Prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence, and other documentation. o Complete forms legibly and accurately.
