Job Description
Overview Join our team as an Assistant Code Enforcement Officer and become a vital part of maintaining safe, compliant, and well-regulated communities. In this energetic role, you will assist in enforcing local building codes, environmental regulations, and public health standards. Your proactive approach will help ensure that construction projects adhere to all relevant laws and ordinances, promoting safety and sustainability across neighborhoods. This position offers a dynamic environment where your attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance will make a meaningful impact every day. Duties Assist in inspecting construction sites, buildings to ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental laws, and safety regulations. Perform on-site structure and nuisance inspections and conduct follow up reviews. Help prepare case files and assist in providing official testimony before the Codes Board, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and District or Circuit Court. Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, violations, and corrective actions, . Help interpret building plans for code compliance, issue construction permits and inspect new building projects. Collaborate with contractors, property owners, and government officials to resolve compliance issues efficiently. Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and follow-up actions in accordance with regulatory reporting requirements. Support and respond to public pans regarding code requirements and respond to emergency structural damage caused by storms or vehicles. Other duties assigned. Skills High school diploma or GED, or equivalent. Two years of responsible construction experience (e.g., foreman) requiring plan reading, or experience in design/drafting for an architect or engineer with construction sites or related fields enhances understanding of construction practices and safety protocols. May substitute an Associate's Degree in Design/Construction field, or Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Science, or Building Technology for required experience.
