June 04, 2026 Responsibilities What you'll do Serve as lead construction inspector on multiple sidewalk replacement and ADA ramp reconstruction projects, ensuring work meets City standards and specifications to protect public safety and accessibility. Oversee and coordinate engineering technician activities to maintain full inspection coverage across active projects. Manage construction oversight from project start to completion, including coordinating pre-construction meetings and project start dates to keep work on schedule. Enforce job-site safety requirements and ensure contractors comply with all applicable regulations and City standards. Respond to citizen questions and concerns regarding construction activities, timelines, and impacts, providing clear and professional communication. Document project progress through field observations and reports and perform snow removal on a residential snow route during winter months as required. What success looks like Sidewalk and ADA projects are completed safely, correctly, and in compliance with City standards. Inspection coverage is consistent and well-coordinated across multiple job sites. Contractors address issues promptly, reducing rework and delays. Documentation and reports are accurate, timely, and meet departmental requirements. Residents receive clear, respectful communication throughout construction activities. REQUIRES
High school graduation and 5 years of related and increasingly responsible experience in engineering drawing, mapping, automated mapping, GIS and equipment, CADD, engineering, land survey, construction inspection and related fields; OR High school graduation and 2 years of experience at the level of Engineering Technician and possession of either the Level II Engineering Technology Certification in any Civil, Electrical or Mechanical discipline as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET); the Land Surveyor in Training as issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects; OR the Class B Wastewater Collections System Certification from the Missouri Water Environmental Association; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.
