Job Description
The Building Inspector III, under general supervision, conducts inspections in the field of new or existing construction to verify compliance with the North Carolina Building Codes. Inspects all phases of the installation and construction methods used. Responsible for communicating to the public interpretations and potential violations of the North Carolina Building Codes. Processes clerical work with daily inspection reports, worksheets, and other documentation as needed. Building Positions Performs field inspections of building, plumbing, and mechanical installations in new, existing, or remodeled buildings, for conformance with safety standards, codes, and ordinances. Enforces the current adopted Building, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes of North Carolina. Inspects building, plumbing and mechanical installations during all phases of construction to ensure that these structures meet the requirements of the North Carolina Building Codes. Checks plans and specifications for building, plumbing, and mechanical installations. Performs public contact by phone with owners and contractors, giving interpretations and requirements regarding building code. Receives complaints regarding interpretation. Completes daily reports and daily work sheets. Checks files for proper permits and for proper inspections. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), with vocational training with major course work in construction trades, and five (5) years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a safe driving record as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy. Building Positions Maintenance of a Level I Standard Certificate through the North Carolina Department of Insurance in Building, Plumbing, and Mechanical classifications.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Licenses or Certifications:
Unlimited Electrical Contracting License issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners of Electrical ContractorsPHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment like telephone, calculator, electrical diagram, and other electrical tools. Must be physically able to operate a truck. Must be physically able to use hand tools, to climb, and to lift. Also required to walk to and though job sites, excavations, and constructions.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in occupied dwellings as well as new structures under construction. Adverse weather conditions such as cold, heat and rain will be present on construction sites.Similar remote jobs
