Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a proactive, self-sufficient, and highly reliable Permitting Coordinator to join our structural engineering firm. Our team specializes in the unique and highly regulated fields of Historic Restoration, Marine Engineering, and Construction Management. In this vital role, you will take full ownership of the permitting process from start to finish, ensuring all necessary approvals are obtained efficiently and accurately.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in general construction permitting, Coastal Area Management Act ( CAMA ) Major and Minor permits, and V-Zone certifications. Because you will manage your own schedule and drive project timelines, you must be a self-starter who can independently make and follow up on daily calls with regulatory agencies to track permit statuses. A background in structural drafting is highly desirable to help bridge the gap between engineering designs and regulatory compliance.
Duties Permit Pipeline Management:
Coordinate, prepare, and oversee the entire permit application process for complex marine engineering, historic preservation, and general construction projects.
Proactive Status Tracking:
Make daily outbound calls and follow up consistently with municipal, county, and state regulatory agencies to advance pending permits through the approval pipeline.
Specialized Coastal Permitting:
Navigate complex environmental regulations to secure CAMA Major and Minor permits and handle specialized V-Zone certifications for waterfront and coastal structural projects.
Historic Compliance Navigation:
Liaise with historic preservation commissions, local boards, and state agencies to ensure restoration designs meet stringent historical zoning guidelines.
Drafting & Design Collaboration:
Leverage a background in drafting to review structural drawings, site plans, and technical specifications to ensure they match local permitting requirements.
Agency & Team Liaison:
Collaborate directly with our structural engineers, construction managers, clients, and government officials to resolve technical issues and ensure timely submissions.
Meticulous Record-Keeping:
Maintain comprehensive, audit-ready digital records of all permits, structural variances, engineering approvals, and official correspondence.
Skills & Qualifications Reliability & Autonomy:
Proven ability to work independently with zero oversight, demonstrating strong self-sufficiency, tenacity, and time-management skills.
Marine & Coastal Permitting Expertise:
Demonstrated experience securing CAMA Major and Minor permits, managing V-Zone certifications, and navigating coastal construction regulations.
Historic Restoration Knowledge:
Familiarity with the unique permitting pathways, building codes, and structural variances required for landmark and historic structures.
Technical Drafting Background:
Solid background in structural drafting or the advanced ability to accurately read and interpret engineering plans and construction details.
Tenacious Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the drive to make frequent daily calls to regulatory bodies to push permits forward.
Organization:
Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple overlapping permit pipelines simultaneously across various jurisdictions.
Pay:
$20.00 - $30.00 per hour
