•Part-Time Building Inspector Up to 20 Hours per
Week Starting Pay:
$27.96 - $30.12 per hour The City of Franklin Fire Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Part-Time Building Inspector to join our Fire Prevention Division. Working under the direction of the Inspection Captain (Building Official), this position performs residential, commercial, and municipal inspections to ensure compliance with applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, septic, health, and life-safety codes. Key Responsibilities Conduct building inspections including footing, foundation, framing, insulation, final, and septic bed bottom inspections. Review permit applications, plans, and supporting documents for code compliance. Interpret and enforce the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and applicable state and local regulations. Prepare inspection reports, issue correction notices, and verify completed corrective actions. Coordinate with the Planning and Zoning Department on permitting and development projects. Provide technical guidance to contractors, property owners, developers, municipal staff, and the public. Maintain accurate inspection records and computerized permit files. Desired Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (technical training in construction, engineering, architecture, or code enforcement preferred). Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, building trades, engineering, architecture, or a related field. Building inspection or code enforcement experience preferred. Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Valid driver's license required with a clean criminal background. Working Conditions This position includes office and field work and requires travel to inspection sites, exposure to construction areas, occupied buildings, uneven terrain, varying weather conditions. Occasional off-hours inspections may be required. How To Apply
