POSITION SUMMARY
This full time seasonal position is responsible for the inspection of construction projects throughout the Township. Work includes interpreting construction plans, specifications and related requirements. This position works closely with the Public Works Manager, Senior Engineer and construction personnel ensuring that legal specifications and conditions of approval are met.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of their assigned Department Head.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs on-site inspection of municipal engineering projects being performed by outside contractors to ensure proper construction in accordance with approved plans and specifications. These include streets, drainage facilities, water mains and parks.
  • Files written job reports, correspondence, punch lists, minutes and other contract administration as required.
  • Maintains a daily log, inspection reports and prepares a weekly report.
  • Issues construction deficiency and/or stop work order notices when required.
  • Acts as representative of the Township on routine field matters.
  • Assist in maintaining files, records and maps including the preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Conducts engineering research as required.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide seamless customer service.
  • Interacts with and assists other Township Departments and represents the Township when dealing with federal, state, county and local agencies and media regarding Public Works operations and issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required and/or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used for construction projects such as roads, drainage facilities and water systems. This includes knowledge of relevant rules, ordinances and statues as well as engineering terminology.
  • Knowledge of mathematical principles required to perform related technical calculations.
  • Ability to measure distance using a tape measure.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to observe and/or monitor work and procedures to determine compliance with prescribed specifications.
  • Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative reports of investigations containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and make on site decisions.
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to control contractors working for the Township.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors working for the Township.
  • Ability to successfully interact with Township residents.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other municipal personnel and with private contractors.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Ability to understand, remember and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Candidates must have completed their freshman year prior to date of hire and must be pursuing a four (4) year degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Special Requirement(s):
  • Valid NJ State driver's license required.
  • Must be available for emergency overtime assignments.

  • The noise level in the work environment is frequently noisy.
The employee will occasionally work at night or in low level light situations.
