Job Description

Brookhaven National Lab's Modernization Project Office (MPO) is responsible for the engineering, design, cost estimating, scheduling, and project controls on conventional construction projects, including the selection of architectural/engineering firms, contractors and others engaged for these projects. As a member of the Modernization Project Office, the experienced architectural/ civil inspector will inspect architectural installations, room layouts, roofing/ siding, façade/ curtainwall, interior finishes, foundations, and site work associated with new construction and/or renovation work to ensure conformance with contract documents and applicable codes and standards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years' field experience in construction with an emphasis on interior finishes, site work, foundations, and coordination of work by the various trades associated with construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation of daily narrative reports. Verification of work performed on contractor payment applications. Coordination of construction work with facility operations and other stakeholders. Responsible for quality of work. Verification of contractor compliance with contract drawings and specifications. Coordination of construction activities with facility user and support divisions to meet operational requirements. Responsible to verify installation against shop drawings and specifications Conformance with contractual safety requirements. Work Overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
5-+ years' experience in construction inspection of interior finishes, façade/ curtainwall, Foundations / Building Layout / Roofing/ Site Work. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Working knowledge of the latest version of the ICC building codes.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in architecture or civil engineering. 10+ years of related field experience ICC Certified Building Inspector. NICET Level II and III Certification. Knowledge of fire-stopping, fire-rated construction, and/or fire-proofing. OSHA 30-hour training. Building Envelope Commissioning and/or General Building Commissioning process.

Other Information:
This is a fully onsite position located at BNL. Due to the need for unescorted access to controlled areas of the laboratory, this position is limited to U.S. citizens in accordance with site security requirements.
Hours:
8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Valid driver's license. The ability to work Overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules and/or to meet project deadlines. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
