Position Summary The Construction Inspector is responsible for oversight of all capital construction work, including planning, assigning, monitoring, and reporting on all construction work completed by South Jersey Industries team members and contractors. Additionally, the Construction Inspector supports the execution of strategic plans related to construction implementation and oversight, customer service, and quality controls. This team establishes priorities and resource allocation and maintains deadlines for effective and efficient delivery of multiple simultaneous projects.
Position Objectives:
Oversee construction of gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties, including inspecting all construction activities like safety, compliance, quality, locates and restoration. Coordinate with internal and external service providers and support other units to take action in the field and ensure that work is performed as planned, permitted, and scheduled. Review and approve work orders, progress trackers, field changes, daily sheets, as-built records to ensure compliance with company standards and policies. Maintain customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with customers, municipalities and other governmental agencies such as DOTS, Counties, etc., including serving as initial contact for new business construction inquiries for developers, builders, homeowners, and Service Center personnel. Champion Quality Assurance (e.g., policies, procedures, standards, best practices) and Quality Control on all capital construction projects.
Position Expectations:
Review project designs and schedule and attend project planning meetings as necessary. Communicate with all stakeholders on design changes and schedule. Ensure adequate inspection of assigned projects and contractor crews. Know and enforce Company policy, procedures, best practices, codes and standards (e.g. Ensure only qualified individuals perform work on Company projects (e.g. OQ, welding qualifications, plastic joining qualifications, MAT qualified, etc.). OPM, OQ/JQ, Equipment Calibration, etc.). Ensure contractors have adequate records on a project and will assist in collecting necessary records for safe and efficient installation Identify field risks. Track the progress of their projects and update Project Dashboards. Construction Inspectors are expected to be on the job site during their designated shift hours.
Roles, Responsibilities and Expectations:
Follow all outlined SJI Safety policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and corporate safety guidelines. Perform all audits on contractors, attend large project pre-construction meetings when requested by supervision. Perform all other daily tasks that are assigned by supervision. During normal business hours. Know and enforce Process and Procedure documents and Best Practices (e.g. main separation / flow interruption plans, purge to activate plans, sewer lateral policy, safe digging practices, as builts, main cards, meter in to out policy, service cards, service offsets, RVP, red wire process, community outreach, etc.). Know and enforce laws governing underground construction. Other responsibilities in accordance with Construction Inspector Job Expectations document.
Administrative:
Complete and document all OQ field audits and Initial Site Assessments within CQA per BPU requirements. Complete and document all required plumbing & relight inspections per Company quality control program (20% requirement) as required by N.J.A.C. Continuously inspect / conduct post audits on all aspects of the project area with a specific focus on mitigating risks that may lead to slips, trips and falls. Assist with project close out (Review of Maximo Work Orders, As-builts, Etc.). Compensation Range:
Start Rate - 45.53 USD We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate's qualifications, education, and experience.
