Position Summary:
JMT is currently seeking a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) to carry out Construction Management and Inspection Services in the Pittsburgh, PA region. Projects may include public housing, education, airport, rail/transportation and/or other public building projects. Experience should include inspection of elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and/or other lift machinery, verifying that the operation, construction, retrofit, or repair work in the field is performed in accordance with applicable code requirements, drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g.

) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, document unit price work and verify that all mechanical work aligns with approved drawings and design documents Performs trade specific code and/ or Quality Control inspections on various phases/ aspects of elevator/ lift equipment Detect possible defects and faults in equipment installations, maintenance, or operation and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures per Jurisdictional requirements and keep the Resident Engineer/PM advised of potential issues Prepare estimates of extra work and related sketches and documentation Review plans for constructability and prepare comments Review contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer/PM Oversee and participate in the testing, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systems Ensure proper functionality of pumps, compressors, piping, ventilation, fire suppression, and fuel distribution systems Identify any discrepancies or defects and coordinate necessary corrective actions Required Skills Working knowledge of the latest Building Codes. Willingness to learn and an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, and facility staff both in person via two-way communication. Possession of current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification OR Five years' experience in the elevator industry performing elevator inspections, service, repairs, and or testing of elevator systems. Education in the engineering discipline may be substituted for two years of field experience Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators and moving walks Valid Driver's license required - Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening Required Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent 8 years of experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $200K to $25 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift) Trained in OSHA 30-hour construction safety Preferred Experience Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred Aviation/Airport experience preferred Electrical, civil, architectural, and structural knowledge preferred ICC and Work Zone Safety Certifications are preferred Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
