SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, performs inspection of public infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer, drainage, and street construction improvements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Inspects all aspects of public infrastructure construction and reconstruction performed by contractors, developers, and public utility companies. Coordinates with contractors on construction methods, sequencing, and public safety measures. Ensures construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications. Locates and marks underground utilities using specialized equipment and maps. Coordinates and/or performs testing of water and sanitary sewer line pressure and vacuum, and witness testing of concrete pavement and structures. Reviews plans, specifications, and work assignments with the immediate supervisor. Assists with the review and processing of right-of-way permits. Assists with field mapping. Adheres to all personnel, safety, and departmental policies and procedures. Informs immediate supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, and work activities. Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic devices, and utility location equipment. Ability to prioritize projects with strong attention to detail while meeting required deadlines. Effective oral and written communication.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES /CERTIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED. Valid Texas Class C Drivers License required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES /CERTIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of paid professional infrastructure inspection and construction work experience to include street/alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer lines, earth work, concrete, job safety, and testing procedures. Or any combination of related education and experience that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Must be able to wear City-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ability to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; high, precarious places; confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. In all cases, appropriate procedures and PPE will be utilized. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Must pass a drivers license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification. Must be able to work overtime and emergency call back as needed or determined by the business needs of the department.
