Job Description

Position Overview Work as a Water District Inspector involves continual learning in order to understand and stay current on regulations and other industry related issues. Has working knowledge of required inspection procedures and standards and resolves non-compliance issues with assigned inspections. Reports to the Builder Services Supervisor and is able to perform all assigned tasks. Prepares Notices of Violation as enforcement as necessary, in an effort to bring all users into compliance with local ordinances. ​
Essential Job Functions Routine Grease Trap Inspections:
Works closely with commercial customers and other City and County Departments to assure that grease traps and other interceptors are maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal law and that the appropriate devices are installed Determines the compliance of users through inspection ​
Pre & Post Construction Lot Inspection:
Certifies the integrity of all District utilities including water meters, meter boxes, hydrants, secondary valves, blow offs, isolation valves, valve boxes, cleanouts, manholes and debris in storm sewer inlets etc. prior to construction​
Residential Sewer Inspections:
Performs sewer line and connection inspection on all new sewer line installations from the structures' foundation to the District's sewer main or connection, prior to backfilling Certifies the integrity of all district utilities in close proximity to sewer inspection. Verifies that all lines and connections are in compliance with local and state ordinances/codes ​ Other Inspections and Assignments Performs any other industry related task to the best of their ability Cleans, maintains, and performs routine maintenance on equipment and vehicle ​ Education and Experience Requirements High School or GED Valid class C driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing​ Skills/Abilities Must be able to obtain a Customer Service Inspection and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Licenses no later than 18 months to continue with the department - Must also meet all TCEQ educational, work, and criminal history requirements Uses hand tools such as: hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, shovels, manhole hooks, etc., to open interceptors and PVC pipe to verify capacity of interceptor Must be able to operate a motor vehicle requiring a standard Texas Driver's License and travel to sites to conduct inspections Mechanical Aptitude and knowledge of plumbing preferred but not required Must be able to enter data on a personal tablet computer to update inspections and other assigned tasks Knowledge of the location of commercial users, water lines, sewer lines and manholes Meets scheduling and attendance requirements Works around and on construction sites and other potentially hazardous environments Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, property and business owners/officers, and their representatives Must be available to work overtime and weekends as required Must be able to reply to email and other notifications within a timely manner​
Work Environment:
Must have the physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) Must be able to work under adverse weather and environmental conditions Subject to exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, noise, and dirty working conditions
