Job Description

Under general supervision of the Permit Technician Manager, this position provides excellent customer service to contractors, residents, and developers. Processes building permit applications, maintains databases to track information on permits, plan review, building inspections, code enforcement, and health inspections. Register contractors, calculate permit fees, answer semi-technical inquiries from the public and accept payments. Perform other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or G.E.D., and three (3) years of experience working as a permit technician or in an office environment. Possession of an ICC Permit Technician Certification and/or obtain within one year of employment. Must possess Texas Class C Driver License. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or post-offer physical exam. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provide excellent customer service. Answer phones and respond to emails. Assist applicants and the public with forms and technical questions related to the permitting and development process. Daily banking activities. Review, accept and process permit applications and documents, assess and collect permitting fees, provide receipts for fees paid, provide change, reconciles and close out cash drawer. Enter data to track information on permits, plan reviews, building inspections, code enforcement and health inspections for commercial and residential building permits. Maintain and update department records and files. Typing, filing, copying, faxing and other related activities. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours/shift is essential. Conduct simple permit plan reviews. Other duties as assigned.
