JOB SUMMARY
Under direction of Construction Inspection Manager or designee, assist in inspecting construction of street/alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, parking lot, and sidewalk projects. Assist in administration of Urban Storm Water Program and Sidewalk Replacement Program. Perform technical and informational inventories and surveys, line and grade surveys, design work, and general administrative work. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Inspect construction or reconstruction of public works, developer and public utility projects. Manage and coordinate with contractors on methods, sequence and public safety during construction. Insure construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards and specifications. Perform related survey work to establish/verify lines and grades; record locations of all water, sanitary and storm sewer lines. Coordinate testing of water and sanitary sewer lines, concrete pavement and structures. Measure and calculate quantities for payment on contracts and maintain as-built plans. Lift, carry and hold up to 50 pounds of various survey and inspection equipment. Walk for extended periods of time while performing inspection duties. Push, pull and/or drag up to 50 pounds of various survey, inspection and construction equipment. Climb and/or crawl into and out of pipes, culverts, manholes and trenches. Kneel, sit, squat, stand, stoop and/or twist while performing inspection duties. Hear and see sufficiently to inspect work safely in traffic and dangerous construction situations. Read, and write by hand. Communicate courteously and effectively with contractors, engineers, developers, other city employees, officials, and the public. Make sound decisions. Work indoors and outdoors, including adverse weather conditions, such as extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings and/or noise. Using appropriate safety precautions, work in trenches and with some exposure to mechanical, radiation, fume/odor and dust/mite hazards. Perform administrative office and field work for Inspector I, Senior Construction Inspector, Chief Construction Inspector, and Engineers. Efficiently and safely operate, care for, and maintain appropriate appearance of assigned equipment. Perform drafting and computer work as required. Some extended hours occasionally required.
REQUIRED DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
High school diploma or GED is required. College credit in Engineering, Construction Management or related field is preferred. Valid Texas driver's license, Class C, is required.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
A minimum of three years of previous Public Works Construction Inspection experience or a minimum of one year experience as a City of Richardson Construction Inspection III is required. Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet computer programs.
Must have abilities to:
perform mathematical calculations for grades, volumes, areas and other related calculations; operate a survey level, record and interpret survey information. Knowledge required of earthwork, concrete, utility construction and testing procedures.
