Job Description

Utility Inspector Danville, VA Utility Inspector The Utility Inspector is responsible for ensuring the accurate identification, location, and proper handling of existing underground utilities during pipeline construction projects. The key duties and responsibilities include: Review project plans, drawings, and utility records to identify potential utility conflicts along the proposed pipeline route. Coordinate with utility owners (gas, electric, water, telecom, etc.) to ensure accurate marking of their facilities within the project area. Conduct site visits and visual inspections to verify marked utility locations and identify any unmarked or undocumented utilities. Monitor all excavation activities near existing utilities to ensure proper clearances are maintained and facilities are not damaged. Document and report any utility strikes or damages immediately, following established protocols. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, codes, and industry best practices related to utility locating and protection. Collaborate with construction crews, surveyors, and project managers to resolve utility conflicts and implement necessary measures for utility protection or relocation. Maintain detailed records and prepare reports on utility-related activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
Relevant experience in utility locating, construction inspection, or related field. Familiarity with utility mapping systems, locating equipment, and marking standards. Knowledge of applicable regulations and safety practices for utility excavation and damage prevention. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work outdoors and traverse construction sites safely.
