Job Description

The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the Civil Service examination process for a
CONTRUCTION INSPECTOR II
in the
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. ABOUT THE JOB
This is skilled engineering and inspection work performed in the field and office. The work involves conducting construction inspections of a variety of public works, public utilities, and private development projects within or on behalf of the City, including public contract management duties. Successful performance requires the application of precise engineering knowledge gained through training and experience. Although advice is generally available, employees in this class are expected to exercise independent judgment in solving field and office problems. The work of this classification is characterized by the higher complexity of the duties, with an emphasis on complex capital improvement projects. An employee in this class may lead and/or supervise specific tasks and projects, and/or may direct or coordinate the work activities of others. MINIMUM EDUCATUION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires high school graduation or equivalent. An Associate's degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction technology or related field preferred. Four years of construction inspection experience that includes inspection of capital improvement projects.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid, unrestricted (corrected lenses allowed) driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in adverse weather conditions and in and around hazardous construction sites. Respond to call outs, and may work weekends and holidays.

LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. EXAMINATION STEPS
Supplemental Questionnaire is part of the application (weighed 10%). Answers must be detailed and will be blind rated . Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral interview (weighted 90%), tentatively in-person interviews will be scheduled in early June. All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
IMPORTANT NOTES A
passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register. The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Applicants claiming veterans' preference points in accordance with
RCW 41.04.010
as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in
RCW 73.04.005.
Extensive background checks will be conducted. Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid pre-employment physical. New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range. This job classification is represented by Everett Municipal Employees Local 113, AFSCME .
