Job Title:
Construction Inspector Job Description The Construction Inspector performs daily inspections on a variety of construction projects to verify quality and compliance with building codes, construction drawings, and project specifications. The role involves visual and physical inspections, field testing of materials, and detailed documentation of findings. The Construction Inspector collaborates closely with project managers and engineers to address potential issues, maintains strict adherence to safety standards, and supports the continued improvement of project quality. Responsibilities Perform daily testing, observation, and inspection of construction activities in accordance with training, established procedures, and contract specifications. Inspect work across multiple disciplines, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and related construction elements, to verify conformance with plans and specifications. Conduct visual and physical inspections and perform field testing of materials to confirm compliance with project requirements. Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and related technical documents to guide inspection activities. Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports and provide thorough written documentation of observations, test results, and materials verification. Document nonconformance issues, including detailed descriptions of findings, and track them in inspection reports. Perform basic analysis of collected data to verify accuracy before submitting results to the Project Manager. Communicate inspection results, issues, and recommendations to the Project Manager and other designated project personnel in a timely and professional manner. Interact with clients and site personnel, when appropriate, to provide input on suitable resolutions to inspection findings. Assist the Project Manager in developing the scope of testing and inspection services for assigned projects. Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and office leadership to ensure proper planning and resource allocation. Maintain inspection and testing equipment in proper working condition and report any issues with equipment functionality. Support more sr inspectors on large or complex projects by assisting with inspections, documentation, and coordination tasks. Follow all safety rules, procedures, and project-specific safety requirements, including performing pre-task planning prior to executing work. Promptly report any safety issues or concerns to management and contribute to a culture of safety on all project sites. Take responsibility for maintaining high quality standards on all assigned projects and support continuous improvement in inspection practices. Essential Skills Minimum 2 years of experience with structural steel bolting and structural steel welding inspection. Demonstrated experience in construction inspection, including field observation and documentation. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications accurately. Proficiency in conducting inspections and tests related to concrete and civil construction. ACI certification (required). WABO certification (required). Valid driver's license (required). Strong written communication skills to prepare clear and detailed inspection reports. Ability to perform basic analysis of test data to verify accuracy prior to submission. Effective verbal communication skills to coordinate with Project Managers, clients, and site personnel. Solid understanding of safety practices and the ability to consistently follow safety procedures on construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with proprietary anchors, reinforced concrete, post-tensioning, firestopping, and structural wood inspection. Three or more WABO certifications are ideal. Familiarity with ICC-related inspection standards and practices. Experience with structural steel inspection beyond bolting and welding is beneficial. CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is a plus. Experience operating a nuclear density gauge for field testing is advantageous. Experience in aggregate testing and related construction materials testing. Ability to use inspection equipment and maintain it in good working order. Interest in continuing education and certification advancement, supported by the employer. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple inspections, documentation, and communication tasks. Work Environment This role is based onsite at active construction projects, primarily within the Tacoma, Seattle, and Bellevue areas, minimizing travel outside these locations. The work involves regular presence on construction sites, including exposure to outdoor conditions, varying weather, and typical construction-related noise and activity. The position focuses largely on commercial projects, with limited involvement in transportation work, which many inspectors find to be a preferred project type. The work environment emphasizes high-profile projects, a strong safety culture, and close coordination with project teams. Scheduling support aims to place inspectors on projects as close as possible to their homes to reduce commute times and support work-life balance. Appropriate field attire and use of personal protective equipment are required in accordance with construction site safety standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lynnwood, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.
