Job Description

Underground Utility Locator Kohnen Underground Utilities Inc. Overview Join our team as an Underground Utility Locator and become a vital part of ensuring safe and efficient construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. In this dynamic role, you will utilize specialized equipment and techniques to accurately identify underground utilities, preventing costly damages and service disruptions. Your expertise will support construction crews, survey teams, and utility companies by providing precise location data, enabling smooth project execution from start to finish. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in utility locating, land surveying, and field service within a collaborative and safety-focused environment. A Day in the Life Your day starts behind the wheel of a company vehicle, headed to your first ticket location. Armed with a laptop, cell phone, and high-precision electromagnetic sensors, you'll spend your hours outdoors, acting as a high-tech detective. You'll alternate between the quiet focus of marking lines and quick, professional check-ins with contractors or homeowners to ensure everyone stays safe. It's a role for someone who loves the autonomy of the open road, the challenge of technical troubleshooting, and the satisfaction of knowing your accuracy prevented a major utility strike. Duties Use advanced utility locating equipment such as electromagnetic detectors, ground-penetrating radar, and other tools to identify underground utilities like water, gas, electric, and communication lines. Interpret blueprints, maps, and land survey data to accurately pinpoint utility locations before excavation or construction activities. Mark underground utilities clearly on-site using spray paint and/or flags to guide excavation crews safely around existing infrastructure. Conduct field inspections at construction sites to verify utility locations and ensure compliance with safety standards. Collaborate with land surveyors, construction teams, and project managers to coordinate locating efforts and provide detailed reports on findings. Maintain detailed records of utility locations, field notes, and locate activities for project documentation and future reference.
